After a day spent with friends and family at Goodwood Revival to celebrate my husband’s birthday, we returned to the George and Dragon Inn in Chichester to continue the celebrations.
The pub/hotel is in a very convenient location for Goodwood Revival, we left our cars on the morning at Northgate car park (free on Sundays) and walked the 10 mins or so through town to the station where we picked up the Goodwood bus. Dressed in 40s, 50s and 60s outfits, we blended in well with the other passengers.
Due to rain in the afternoon, we were fortunate that we could return early to the GD Inn and spend some time in the bar. If the weather had been nice, we had planned to have pre-dinner drinks in the courtyard but alas English weather took over. The restaurant is not normally open Sunday evenings, but they had opened it for our group (24 of us). The chef created a delicious menu for us – the scallops with butternut squash and bacon were very popular as were the tiger prawns with spinach and chorizo for starters. Mains of beef 2 ways and pork just melted in your mouth. The strawberry and blackpepper ice cream to accompany the creamy crème brulee was a bit like marmite – you love it or hate it (I loved it!). We had the conservatory dining area to ourselves so felt really like a private party. The service was friendly and efficient, and the staff throughout our whole stay were very accommodating.
Those of us lucky enough to stay there the night in the rooms just at the back of the courtyard had a comfortable night. Rooms were well equipped with tea/coffee etc, hair dryers, press, but rather surprisingly a bit lacking on the toiletries side – just a small soap and single shower sachet. My husband told me not to pack much as everything would be there, and just as well I never took any notice of him. More great food was served up at breakfast – scrambled egg and smoked salmon muffin was just right for me, followed by lovely platter of fresh fruit, and those with hearty appetites tucked into the George full, and I mean full, English brekkie.
Room Tip: Largest room and bed is the "large double"
