“Having lived in digs for work for 10 years this was the second to worst I have ever come across”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

The bed was comfortable and the TV worked!! However... The state of cleanliness in the bathroom was disgusting...black mould in the shower, the bin had not been emptied from previous tenant and the whole room was dirty. At breakfast the tablecloths were stained and the table china was dirty. What a shame to have such a beautiful building and to keep in in such a dreadful state. It certainly did not meet any hygiene standards I have ever known.

“B&B in need of some care and attention!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

My overall impression was that this was more of B&B than a hotel. It is in dire need of some care and attention. Basic things like the cleanliness of the sink, bath and the top surface of the small side cupboard where the kettle and cups etc lived just needed a proper wipe as there were marks still visible that came off if scratched. The door to the bathroom and shelf inside could have done with a wipe. The net curtains in the bathroom had huge holes in them and got me thinking of the show; 'Rising Damp'. If all this had been remedied then it would have elevated the standards of the room. Even the complimentary shower gel had visible tea stains on,...so you get the idea. Saying this, the beds were clean and we were warm during our stay in a twin room on a Saturday. We got the impression that only one person was running the whole show most of the time. The lady at breakfast was very friendly and I'd advise you to have a cooked breakfast as the cereals etc were lacking.(The dining room was rather cold!) The man on reception spoke some English and was friendly and was the only person that one could see in the building (except for tha lady in the morning) . All in all I would say that it was fine for an overnight stay, somewhere to lay your head but we didn't use the bathshower facilities as it was in need of a proper clean and was old and dated looking. It has an excellent location and we paid £30 each...they just need to up their standards and perhaps think of having a revamp as the place seemed to be just about ticking along.

Room Tip: Room 5 on the first floor was fine for an overnight stay (Twin) - By the road but not very noisy as...

“MARK and TIMS ROAD TRIP TO HELL!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

ROAD TRIP TO HELL. We have travelled all over the uk on many buisness trips, this week alone we drove 998 miles in three days two nights but we have never come across such an unkept DIGS !!! we dont think that you can call the suffolk hotel an hotel at all. It is what you would expect a load of a drunks to be living in. My room which was room 1 would shake if any one walked by on the landing outside, bathroom was filthy splatter stains around the toilet. The sheets were worn and didnt look fresh, I slept in my clothes. My buisness partners room was in a worse state than mine the bed would fit a child, if you would dare place a child in the filthy sheets. bathroom was dirty, shower did not work when tried to see if he dare give it a go, decided to not bother. Breakfast was cold warm coffee dirty tables, we decided to leave and eat elsewhere. would never go back. CANNOT BELIEVE THEY HAVE NOT BEEN CLOSED DOWN.

“Hotel Inspector needed to get this place up to standard!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

Very disappointed single room at the top of the house. Room was filthy - especially the bathroom that was covered in toothpaste stains across the glass shelf and sink. Shower was covered in mildew - only redeeming quality was the hot water. Evidence of what looked like a splatter of blood right next to the bed (I have a photo of this to dig out) and the icing on the cake was being confronted by a spider coming out of the bed.

I recognise that this is an old building and in a brilliant location a stone's throw from the sights and sounds of Chichester - but I didn't appreciate the poorly fitted, single glazed windows mid the horrific thunder storm during my stay. Cold, damp and a draft running right through the room.
