“hazardous to health”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

I have just spent 4 nights in this most appalling Hotel.
Work commitments caused me to book late, but having stayed in Travelodges before I wasn't too concerned and proximity to Havant was essential, again due to work commitments.
Unfortunately I was wrong in both my assumptions.
The Travelodge name appears to no longer be a guarantee of a reasonable, if basic standard. Also the hotel's apparent geographical proximity to Havant didn't allow for the appx 20 mile round trip to get to the other side of the carriageway.
Although the staff were as helpful as they could be, the standard of cleanliness in the room we were allocated was digraceful. From the bloodstained matress to the mould growing in the kettle the room was a disaster, the staff allocated us another room, but the improvement was minimal. The second room was dank and damp, with the seemingly ubiquitous mould appearing in the bathroom. My colleague commented that it was possible to dine well off the fungi growing in the bathroom....this would probably be preferable to eating at the exhorbitantly priced Litte Chef next door!!
One of the staff informed us that the site was up for sale and possibly this was one reason why the standards were so appalling. A reason perhaps, but certainly no excuse.
I was unable to secure another hotel for the rest of my stay so was forced to endure this purgatory, due to work I had contracted to do, but in the end I returned home a night early, foregoing a further work contract I was offered.

“They took my money, but no room at the inn”

Arrived 11pm at night to be told there was no room. Were offered Arundel - over 20 mile drive despite rooms at another hotel nearby. Worst part was that they charged my credit card for the rooms!!! I am trying to get my money back but they don't answer queries logged via website or via phone - too busy trying to sort out all the cock ups I expect. Forget travelodge - use premier inn instead.

“Don't blame the staff - Blame lack of investment!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

Just spent last weekend here taking a Family Room to re explore Chichester & Gun Wharf (Portsmouth) Post booking I viewed this site and was horrified! I thought about the remarks left all the way enroute warning my family "Don't expect too much" The lady on reception gave us a warm & welcoming smile which was reassuring. I opened the door with some caution to be pleasently surprised - Yes it was tired, but it was functional and would do the job! - Closer investigation and analysis shows the 'Problem' and the TV is a good starting point, the small ugly ones you know see in a pile in waste sites - A flat screen would award the room with a contempary look and provide much need space.
The bathroom was clean but grotty - The towel rail was rusty.
I spoke to some other residents who shared my views, Yes it was cheap but it doesnt need to be like this and its close relationship with Little Chef says it all for me...A tired dated brand.
Who do I blame ? The CEO and senior Management team ! I look forward to watching a future programme on Channel 4 re Secret Boss - He/She would find on my evidence, great staff fighting a losing battle against a back drop of Investment neglect! - I'm a CEO myself and pride myself on knowing all areas of my business intimatly! I suggest Management shoiuld get out of the boardroom and conduct a personal audit of these lodges and do something about them! (Even Receptions chair and PC looked pitiful) If they havent got the cash, I suggest they talk to VC's now before Premier Inn take all their marketshare and they will !!
May I ask future customer's to respect the staff within and direct future anger at those responsible The Management - These are competative times - Look at Woolworths! If you can't reinvent and adapt to changing markets, you are dead! -

“Clean room at a fair price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

The room was not overly large but big enough, the bed comfortable. TV a little small but watchable.
The bathroom a little tired but clean, The tile grout needs cleaning (Try Grotbuster!!) The bath shower mat was non existant and the shower curtain could do with replacing.
The Reception staff both at night and in the morning were nothing short of suberb, extremely friendly very helpful and very efficient.
The Little chef next door was ok for a quick meal.
The entrance of the M27 is very tight and you have to slow down very quickly in order to make the turn.
Overall, though I enjoyed my stay.

Room Tip: Pick one away from the M27 side

“Good Rooms, Good Prices”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

Family of 5 staying in 2 rooms. Both were clean and tidy. 1 room had 1 clean towel and bath mat placed on bed but previous used towels were still hanging on back of bathroom door. Apart from this tiny oversight we couldn't fault our stay. The staff were very pleasant too and we would definitely recommend this motel if you wanted a very reasonable priced hotel in the Chichester area. Not recommended if you want to visit Portsmouth though, as the Travelodge's location on the eastbound carriageway means you would have to travel to Chichester and turn round there.
