“Good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

Visited this hotel through a groupon voucher whilst visiting our daughter. The hotel is in a great location, the public rooms are bright and recently refurbished and our bedroom on the top floor very well appointed. Large 6' wide bed and great bathroom. We were on the corner so had 2 outside walls. Electric fan heaters were supplied but not used. Innovative wooden shutters for the windows were good. Food in the brasserie was good and a rare but welcome feature was a cooked to order breakfast. You may have had to wait a bit longer but it was worth the wait! Staff were polite and helpful. Free car park was a bonus too.

Room Tip: Go for the top floor, views across Chichester and the Cathedral great.

“Winter Break”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I stayed in the Ship last week during a mid-week break in Chichester. Whilst the communal parts of the hotel were in good condition, the room was a little on the shabby side and showed signs of being in need of refurbishment. The weather was bitterly cold, the radiators didn't work, and whilst a fan heater was provided, this was not ideal for very cold weather. I did mention the radiators to the receptionist on my first morning but there was no sign of improvement whilst I was there. On the plus side, the location is good and the staff are friendly.

“Ship Ahoy”

I was tempted by a Groupon offer to stay overnight at the ship with breakfast. It is a lovely 'boutique' hotel in a beautiful old building with contemporary decor in the middle of bustling Chichester. We took in the Cathederal and the Pallent gallery both within a short walk away. I was stunned by a local pub advertising a 'man creche' it was great as my other half hates shopping, he was happy to sit with a pint and paper whilst I went off for a shop. Lots to see & do including a megga Jack Wills for the kids (if only I had taken them). Staff were lovely at the hotel & pleased to help always.

Room Tip: Possibly top floor (3rd) as floors very creaky in the hotel however small lift if you don't fanc...

“Good hotel in an excellent location - let down by a few things”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

This hotel is in the perfect location if you are visiting Chichester The free car park was a bonus for a central hotel. We used a Groupon deal so I was not surprised that the room was quite small. The bar/restaurant is nice, bright and modern. The things that let this hotel down were that the staff while friendly seemed too few in number, the guy behind the bar was also serving meals which led to delays in being served. Also, our double bed was two singles which is fine except that they came apart easily. Overall, a good place to stay if you get a bargain, if not i'd keep looking.

“Frustrating!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

I bought a Groupon offer for my husband for Christmas & we phoned in early January to book. Although the offer period lasted until the end of February, there was no weekend availabilty (2 Sunday nights and some mid-week nights were all that was left). Due to work commitments we could only do a Friday or Saturday so we eventually faced the fact that we had to abandon the idea (and lose £60 into the bargain).

We gave our Groupon voucher to friends & were dismayed when they were offered dates in March - the offer had apparently been extended! My husband immediately rang the hotel & the extended dates were confirmed. He was told that the general manager had agreed with Groupon to extend the dates. My husband explained our predicament & the receptionist said she'd email the general manager immediately (it was evening) and he would contact my husband the folllowing morning.

Guess what?! No phone call! We are now even more frustrated and wish that we could have written a review based on a stay at this hotel rather than an administrative disaster.
