We stayed one night, enjoying a lovely lunch and evening meal at the Richmond Arm, which we could not fault. Had a cycle in the gym and lovely swim (watch out floor can be a little slippery). Staff excellent. What a shame to be woken up twice in the night at 2pm and 4pm by false fire alarms, having to get dressed and stand in reception. No compensation as yet !!! Shame we were not told about the building work when we booked.

We stayed one night, and what a night! Luxurious room, very comfortable, clean and tasteful. It was raining the afternoon we arrived, and we found the room so cosy we stayed in. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner that night, the food was excellent, and the bar was very welcoming. We also found the staff to be very polite and professional. My Wife and I would highly recommend!

I was booked to spend New Years Eve at this hotel for a treat as 2011 had been a tough year, unfortunetly due to the diagnosis of a terminal illness of a family member who was supposed to be with us, I had to cancel 1 week before Christmas. This was when I really understood where they stand on their cancellation policy, with typical Dickensian Scroogeness no circumstances effect their policy of taking the full payment if they don' re-let your room.
My best advise is to pay as late as possible, if they have not got the up front payment, they cant keep it. I am sure we would have had a great time but I just found myself £400 down with a policy rather than a person reviewing my cancellation.
I was not the only person to suffer this policy at New Year... Nice money if you can get it.

Classic country house hotel on the South Downs which is ideal for a short break. It has an excellent spa and health club and plenty of opportunities for walks on the downs. The room was on the small side, but perfectly comfortable and everything worked fine. More satellite channels on the TV might be good. Breakfast was first class, but only if included in room rate as £17.50 is a lot to pay otherwise. I took evening meals in the bar, which was a little soulless and the food very good but rather highly priced (£14.50 for a burger). I'd recommend staying here and hope to return to make more use of the facilities. Staff were friendly and helpful.

I paid for my daughter and her partner to stay for a birthday treat in September and they said thay had a fantastic time the food in the Richmond bar was excellent and the service that they got from the staff made them feel really special so much so they have booked to stay there next weekend for two nights excellent value for money
