“very nice hotel and staff - but avoid the hot breakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

A country house style hotel with a good golf course and swimming pool and spa etc. The rooms were well equipped if not outstanding. A car is essential as its out in the wilds. The restaurant menu was a little to fancy for my taste. Breakfast particularly the hot selection was very uninspiring - unevenly cooked bacon - greasy sausages - over large mushrooms - the cold meat was already curling at 8am.
The usual Hilton problems prevail - overpriced internet and films - poor selection of film channels.
The staff, however, were consistently polite friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: upgrading to an "Executive" room is a waste of money.

“what a pleasant suprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Just stayed at Avisford park for their New years' Eve gala dinner & dance. What a brilliant night, real champagne & canapes at reception. String quartet played during reception, Piper piped us in, live band and disco - both really good, piper at midnight. Great quality 5 course dinner, well presented, well cooked and hot which is pretty good going for 125 people. Plenty of effort made into making banqueting hall look good. Great friendly staff - (even at breakfast on New years day). Whilst the fabric of the hotel is looking a little tired, the staff and overall atmosphere more than made up for it. Great fun, great value, far better than we thought off for a UK Hilton.

“A Good Hilton”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

OK, so a Hilton is a Hilton anywhere in the world, but the Avisford Park seems to get most things right most of the time. The deluxe rooms are a nice size, the beds are comfortable, there is a decent size television and the bathrooms are fine. The setting is exceptional for a Hilton: lovely park land and a nice little golf course in the grounds. This was our fourth visit and we have always found the staff pleasant and accomodating; even though we did disgrace ourselves by managing to destroy a pillow (don't ask how!) we were allowed to get away without paying - not something I would recommend future guests trying out, but still a nice touch.

Although the hotel was very busy with Christmas parties and other lively celebrations, our room on the first floor was very quiet - a good tip is to ask for a room as far away from the entrance as possible, unless you want to enjoy the festivities from close hand.

We haven't eaten diiner there but breakfast is good, especially if you get a table with a view of the gardens.

Downsides - the bedrooms can get very hot at night if you don't turn the radiators down and wifi access is expensive and pretty unreliable for those who can't live without their laptop or ipad. But overall it's a comfortable place for a few days enjoying the delights of Arundel, Chichester and West Sussex and Brighton is only 30/40 minutes away.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms are definitely nicer than standard ones and those at the end of the wings will be a lot...

“Good weekend Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

Stayed here for 2 nights for a weekend break and to visit Christmas Market in Chichester.
On arrival at the hotel Anita on check-in was very pleasant and sorted us out very quickly - offered us an upgrade to superior room for £15 per night which we took. Room was a large twin at the end of a corridor well away from main part of hotel - there were Christmas parties booked in all weekend - it was nice and quiet.
Because of the Christmas parties the main dining-room was out of use all weekend but residents were able to eat the normal menu in a special dining-room set up in the ballroom - very nicely decorated for Christmas and with plenty of staff to look after us. Food was excellent and large helpings too.
Breakfast was in the normal restaurant and typical Hilton Buffet breakfast - plenty of it and freshly cooked.
Hotel is just off A27 - very busy road but no noise from it to upset you.
All in all a very pleasant stay would go back anytime.

Room Tip: Ask for room at end of corridor or near there - quieter

“It's OK but we had to complain - a lot.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

We had several issues with this hotel, one of which was an unpleasant problem with the plumbing in the allocated suite. So we had to move rooms. We eventually received some compensation.

Some staff members were exceptionally unhelpful, but others, to be fair, were very good. However, there were real inconsistencies in how our (valid) complaints were dealt with, which did not make for a particularly relaxing weekend.

The mark of a great hotel is how complaints are dealt with and this Hilton is in need of some urgent training in this area. Things don't always go to plan, I understand, but our initial offer of a free breakfast almost seemed an insult. We eventually did get some financial compensation, but by then the weekend had lost it's charm.

This may not, I understand, be a problem for all hotel guests and perhaps we were unlucky. However, for us it's not a place we would hurry to return to. There were too many "events" going on, none of which we had been told about in advance, and which had a direct impact on the quality of our stay.

Another real beef is the price of internet connection; £15 a go, which is now completely out of step with most other hotels, and which demonstrates that Hilton, as a whole, needs to address some fundamental issues.
