“Dated hotel, unimpressive service.”

Sadly, we were allocated a room in the 'modern' wing of this hotel. I use the word modern loosely, as it was a bit of an 80's time warp. The room featured hideous, dated and fading decor that is desperately in need of full modernisation. It's a dark dingy little room as well.

It was only a place to sleep for us as we were attending a wedding in the locality. However - for £95, which was meant to be an advance special deal, I felt that I would have been better off in a Travel Lodge or Premier Inn.

Breakfast was included, and was the typical mediocre British fayre - of course served up by a surly teenager. You think that a hotel would encourage its employees to smile, speak properly and look customers in the eye. Basic stuff really, but severely lacking in the dining room of this establishment.

The only thing going for this hotel is the central location within Arundel.

All in all - very unimpressive. And it was all the kind of things you know there's no point complaining about or mentioning, because the staff clearly don't want to be there either.

Room Tip: Avoid the modern extension and try and get a room in the old building. Apparently they're more i...

Dear Catcake,

I am so sorry to read that you did not enjoy your stay with us last September - the courtyard rooms do not have the same character as the rooms in the main house. We do value feedback from guests whether positive or negative and we do our best to respond accordingly. I am also disappointed that you gained the impression that the staff do not wish to be here, I have a super team and they are equally disappointed that they have given that impression, everyone is here of their own volition and we all do the best we can, if it did not come across that way, may I offer my apologies.

Arundel is a lovely location so I hope that you will return one day.

Yours sincerely,
Elizabeth d'Apice

“Comfortable Georgian Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Stayed here 2 nights B&B. Very comfortable large twin room with comfy chairs and flat screen telly. Bathroom O.K. but only shower over bath which wasn't the best shower I've ever had.Good breakfast with plenty of choice. Friendly helpful staff.Very atmospheric olde worlde hotel. Only drawback, there is no lift,we were on the 3rd floor! Do ask for ground or 1st floor room if you have difficulty with stairs.Free car park, important as parking difficult in Arundel.

Dear Liz,

Thank you so much for coming to stay with us at the Norfolk Arms Hotel and I am delighted that you had a comfortable stay. I am sorry the water pressure was not as good as you had hoped from the shower, sometimes when we are very busy the top floor pressure does drop a little.

I hope that we will see you again in the future.

Yours sincerely,

“Comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

My friend and I had rooms in the courtyard annex. The rooms were clean and comfortable although an indication of the room numbers outside the two annexs would have been useful as it took us some time to find our rooms. There is ample parking and the hotel is ideally situated in the town. The bar was pleasant and the barman very welcoming. Food was good. Breakfast was lovely and set us up for the day. We enjoyed our stay and will stay again when we are in the area.

“Another fantastic stay, wonderfully characteristic building, great food and friendly staff!”

This is our third stay at the Norfolk Arms as a couple, although my boyfriend has visited many times with his family over the last 15 years. From the moment you go to check in you are made to feel very welcome. Every time we visit the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. There is a lovely lounge area with an open fire, there is also an open fire in the bar opposite the lounge so very cosy, especially this time of year. The room was a good size, with en suite bathroom and shower with a heated towel rail. The whole room was very clean and homely. I liked that they had blackout curtains so if you wanted a lay in then it was possible! We stayed in the main part of the building near the back and was undisturbed by any noise or traffic there may have been. There was a flat screen TV in our room and tea and coffee making facilities. We had dinner the night we arrived which was really nice, the waitress was very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. She also served us in the bar later that evening and was there again for breakfast the next day....still smiling! She is a credit to the hotel. There was lots of choice for breakfast, cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt, three different fresh juices, croissaints (all help yourself) and a large menu of cooked food available - you could have any combination. Admittedly the decor is a little tired, but it is an old building so is to be expected. It is really clean and tidy though which is the main thing, and it also means you're not charged horrendously to stay due to them wanted to refurb the whole place! Arundel is a lovely place, and everything is nearby, the hotel is literally in the center of the town, so a good place to stay for that reason also. You are allowed to part at the hotel for free around the back so you don't have that worry either. Will definitely be staying again and will be looking forward to it!

Room Tip: If you would like to see the character of the building, stay in the main part.

Dear Teresa,

Thank you for staying with us at the Norfolk Arms Hotel, and I am so pleased that you so enjoyed your stay. I am certainly very lucky both with my staff who are lovely and friendly, and with my building which whilst a little tired has heaps of character and charm.

I do hope that we will see you again soon.

Kind regards

“Lovely New Years Eve”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We booked at the very last minute for New Years Eve and had such a lovey stay and a great time.
We arrived at 3 and booked in to be told that tea, coffee and cake was being served in the lounge. In front of a lovely real open fire, pure bliss.
Every single member of staff in this hotel was so friendly and made us feel at home.
The food at the dinner was superb and every item was piping hot . The room was decorated and looked lovely. We even had a glass of bubbly to welcome in the new year and every member of staff came round and said happy new year. The disco after the meal was good fun and every one was having such a good time.
Our room was fine and the bed was comfy. All in all a place to relax and unwind and forget about the world outside.
