We have stayed at the Allesley Hotel on several occasions over the last few years includeing when the on going refubishment has been taking place, our latest visit was in January this year and we have noticed a vast improvement over this time. The car park was reasonably tidy this time with no litter or bottles lying on the ground, Outside the hotel is only what i can describe as a picnic area with wooden tables etc. As you approach the hotel there are water features to greet you. The reception area is much improved, Gone is the old dirty carpet which has been replaced by marble flooring and a rather large chandelier by the door, dotted around are a few red and gold high back chairs and tables etc, and a display of asian clothing, it is obvious the owners are aiming at the asian wedding market. The receptionist was pleasant (as we have found on several occasions) and checking in was easy, However payment was requested before being given our key card, and there is a surcharge for using a credit card.
We were given a room on the fourth floor which we reached via the lift, we did notice that the rooms on this floor were still being refurbished. Our room was 415, which was clean and tidy with the usual tea and coffee etc but only a small amount of milk was left, I suggest you bring your own milk coffee etc as this was not replenished every day. The room was very warm and we had to turn the thermostat down.
There was a resonable double bed in our room which the matress was ok, with clean sheets.
There was a lot of furniture in the room which made the room feel a little cramped, a large flat screen tv was balanced on one of the cabinets which could easily be toppled over, however we did get all the free view digital channels this time instead of just three or four channels we had last year,
The bathroom was clean, clean towels were provided and one piece of wrapped soap, which was only replaced once during our six night stay, although there is liquid soap in the shower and a hand wash near the sink and two small containers of liquid soap provided.
The towels were changed most days but on a couple of occasions we were left with a two small towels instead of bath towels which were not that useful after having showers etc.
There was always plenty of hot water available all times of the day.
The room was serviced most days except the day we were only out for a short while, towels were changed and tea etc replenished, however the sheets were not changed at all during our stay.
We did notice that there was no welcome pack in the room and no DO NOT DISTURB notice to put on the door which can be a bit inconvenient.
We checked out at 10:30 am with no problem.
The hotel does seem to be run on a shoe string budget and is under staffed, I cannot comment on the food or bar as we only ever stay room only in any hotel,
While we can see a vast improvement here, the hotel still has a lot of work to do, especially on the housekeeping side of things. The staff have worked hard to improve the hotel.
We will be staying here again when we visit Coventry in the future but only at the right price, We combine our trips here for both business and pleasure.
