“Just a steal!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We stayed at this hotel last year and had such a nice time and a bargain offer to return!

It was a leisure trip to see Coventry again and the city is just 10 minutes drive away with good parking and a lovely centre. Coventry indoor market is very good.

Welcome on arrival was very good and we found the staff cheerful and welcoming throughout our two night stay.

Our room was a standard double and was clean and spacious with a comfortable bed, writing desk and two easy chairs. The wardrobe had a trouser press. Television wasn't flat screen but had plenty of channels. Free wi-fi available but we didn't try it. Although the weather was freezing the hotel is very warm.

The en-suite facilities included a walk-in shower and there was ample hot water which gave a very strong shower. The water system was a bit noisy but I guess it is high pressure to provide all that lovely hot water.

We paid just £19.99 per night for the room and £5 each for breakfast which was buffet style with ample choices. Overall food was well cooked and of good quality.

As well as Coventry we visited Hoar Park Shopping & Craft Village http://www.hoar-park.co.uk/ which is about 15 minutes drive from the hotel. Lovely tearoom, antiques centre and unusual craft shops.

Again we were very pleased with our visit and would happily return next year.

“Don't bother going”

Went to this hotel with national coach holidays on a 5 day trip. The room my husband and i were given was really shabby, old net curtains at the window, poor quality bed, shabby carpet, and shabby furniture which had seen better days. My husband had to clean the shower head as it was manky, and the telephone handpiece had all sorts of muck on it. The buffet meals were luke warm every single day with cold plates , and we had to ask constantly for food to be put out as at times there wasn't much left as we were on the 7.30p.m sitting ( far too late for us). The saving grace was our lovely coach driver ( John) and our excursions around the Cotswolds were really nice. i would not recommend this hotel to anyone at any price.

“Every poor review of this hotel is accurate”

I didn't do my normal visit to Tripadvisor to check out this hotel before I booked it because I was struggling to find a hotel in the Coventry area, where we were participating in an exhibition and trade show. I wish I had! In fairness the room was reasonably clean and warm but after that! From the moment you entered the reception area the mayhem started. When we arrived there was a huge queue around the reception area of people waiting to check in and another queue, who were already residents, waiting to get their room keys. Initially there was one receptionist dealing with the queue and after much complaining from everyone present a second arrived. It took 40 minutes to check in and that was faster than it may have been because half the queue dissappeared to the bar and came back much later, an option I didn't have. I think they may have had an inkling that the guests had booked to stay there that evening but forward planning or planning of any sort doesn't seem to be their forte. Eating or trying to also was a bit of an enduring procedure. The dining room was full because of the volume of people, so most of the remaining guests had no option but to have a bar snack in the bar. The ordering procedure was again chaotic causing huge queues at the bar where you had to go to order your food. The food when it eventually arrived was eatable typical bar room fayre.
Breakfast is taken in the dining room which looks quite traditional and the English style breakfast buffet was quite acceptable. But the organizational powers of the management come into play once again. You choose a table for yourself and you're on your own. You fancy a tea or a coffee but no-one tells you where it is.When you eventually find it you are confronted with two unlabelled hot urns with taps. Given that there were cups, saucers and a pile of tea bags, I assumed one urn might be coffee and the other might be hot water. Neither of the identical vessels had any distinguishing marks so you had a 50/50 chance of getting your tea made with hot water or coffee. You help yourself to the buffet and the food is quite pleasant but after everything else little things become a major annoyance. I like toast with my breakfast and there was plenty available but it was cold and when you eventually find the butter its on the other side and at the opposite end of the buffet table, why? Its like a war of attrition.
The grounds and the general fabric of the hotel are acceptable if somewhat tired but the chaos that abounds within because of badly managed, badly organised and in many cases poor quality, disinterested staff means I shall not be making a second visit.

“Business Trip - Poor hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We stayed here on a business trip and the hotel on first impressions are fairly impressive. However, the moment you step into the hotel you realise it is a tired, run down hotel in need of some love! The pool & spa area left us feeling dirtier than we arrived, the floor was heavily stained and the pool area just seemed tired. On a positive note the room was HUGE but again it was very dated with a rose coloured bathroom suite and floral tiles! The food was good, despite the staff forgetting our lunch order. It is such a large hotel, that it could be very impressive. The restaurant which looked like it had recently been updated was nice, but the bar area had no atmosphere and there was wall paper missing of some parts of the ceiling. Staff were polite but not welcoming (apart from the lady on reception). I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone, until it gets updated. It snowed whilst we were there, and for once i didn't want to get stranded in a hotel!

“The Facade Hotel”

First impression (from a distance) is good, but then you go inside and take a closer look. No organisation, understaffed (and some of those are very unprofessional), and the place is slowly falling apart. WithIn a two day stay we experienced: Overcrowed bar area (many coach loads of senior citizens on a cheap night out), where you could not find a seat within the only open bar area. The ceilings, fittings and disabled access provisions are all in need of urgent repair, waiting (for so long we had to ask) for a table for breakfast and then stood in the middle of the breakfast room like naughty children for 15 minutes while the staff made up a table, hopping over electric cables taped to the floor, enjoyed a bed sheet across the restaurant window; stopping the wind blowing through the knackered windows, listen to a pair of idiots playing the foyer piano so badly everyone had to leave to find some peace, bang your head trying to sit in your bedroom seats becasue they are located under the slanting trusses of the roof, and the best bit.... having to pay £4 (as a hotel guest) to be allowed to swim in their disgusting pond, sorry, pool. We watched the staff (as the pool closes at night) scrub the whole floor areas and brush the dirt, (including peoples dead foot skin obviously) into the POOL! Talk about swimming in someones toilet, that takes the biscuit and you are charged £4 for the priviledge. And then there was 'Phil', so he says his name was. Phil appeared to be the night porter (night bouncer more like), Phil (when approached at the reception desk) was asked a civil question and he was not only totally and unprofessionally ignorant/rude, he was also too lazy to lift his head out of his supporting hand to talk to you. I was absolutely flabbergasted at his demeanour and response considering he was the representitive (on duty) for the hotel.
Anyway, I hope this helps someone with my family opinion of this 'Faulty Towers', and although I have given it a few weeks grace (cool-off) before a wrote this review...I am still totally astonished with this 'hotel' and the attitude some of its staff have to their guests. Avoid like the plague. Other than that its a dump!
