“Not great really!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Stayed in this hotel 2 nights ago when in Birmingham on business. It was only booked the day before & cost £72 including breakfast.I have stayed in the holiday inn along the road for about the same price & that was far more superior in my opinion.
I understand that you pay for what you get & if i had paid £25 like some others then i would have given a higher mark - maybe an average.

The bed was really uncomfortable & i could feel the springs through the matress. My room was clean enough (although a few strange marks were on the wall which i dont want to think what they were) but the rest of the hotel wasnt. When i went downstairs in the morning my feet were actually sticking to the floor.

Breakfast was ok but it certainly wasnt cooked fresh, just microwaved.

I felt that i wanted to write a review as i always read tripadvisor prior to booking any hotel whether business or pleasure but on this occassion work had booked it for me & whilst i did read TA after i was told where i was staying, i really didnt think it could be as bad as some were making out.

I have stayed in many travel lodges & holiday inns for work & can honestly say that this travel lodge doesnt do the name any justice in the slightest & would probably not reccomend it to anyone really but it wouldnt put me off booking another travel lodge as there are some good ones out there.

“Loved this one, my favourite travelodge!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I really enjoyed this travelodge, i was high up in the tower with a wonderful view and window, very cosy and comfy, also felt private and secure there. Even though it does feel a little bit like entering some futuristic prison when you check in and somewhat difficult to locate the front door, i got there in the end. It's located amongst a load of retail stores, some kind ofg shopping park maybe? can highly reccomend but get in the tower...

“Fine, but only for the price.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

The hotel was £25 for a night and is very close to the M6 so for business was fine, the room was quite large and the desk and Wi-Fi were actually pretty good. Overall the hotel does look dated inside, with an ancient TV and no working remote control, but again for £25 a night this isn't really that bad.

Only real problem with the hotel is food, while there is food offered, it is all microwaved and not great quality, and there is little around the hotel to walk and get an alternative. Also there is 'room service' which is if you buy the food downstairs, they'll provide a tray to take your food upstairs...

Room Tip: Pick a family room, it costs nothing more but you get a sofa bed (or just a sofa to sit on if you...

“Cheap - get what you pay for”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Stayed for 1 night on a Saturday in January 2012. Was going to wedding in nearby Sutton Coldfield. Check in was fast and pleasant and we were given a room on the 1st floor.

Room was clean and warm. Free tea and coffee and 1 bar of soap.

The bed was large and VERY soft!! In fact too soft. With 2 of us in there it only took one of us to move and the whole bed 'wobbled'. In fact we both anded up in the middle of it as it was that soft. Bad back due to this and hardly any sleep.

Would I stay again? Yes as only £32 for the room. Good base for star city and Fort Shopping but thats all.

“Cleanliness of the hotel is very poor.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

I stayed in the hotel and was disappointed with the cleanliness so much so I emailed the chief executive Guy Parsons and got a reply with in a short time.
My complaint was delt with in a very professional way by his team and was satisfied with the overall outcome.
I will continue to use Travelodge however I will be staying away from the Fort Dunlop myself.
