“One night stay”

I have stayed in hotel on 28/01/2012 with my family. Our check in experiance was great ( Maria and I think Her`s supervisor) . We got all info about area, hotel etc. It was our first time in Birmingham and it was great part thanks to Hotel. Breakfast good. Stuff outstanding.
For Express by holiday Inn - better then I expected. Some Holiday inn`s ( most of them) can only learn from them how to threat the guests

“Location good, poor instructions in room, breakfast tasteless”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

Stayed one night on business. The hotel is clean and well located and good value for money. Although my bedroom was spaceous and had a good heating/ cooling system the instructions to operete this are not complete. Having turned the heating up to 30 degrees. the room remained icy cold. I discovered the next morning that the electric radiator had been switched off at the wall.. No instructions to check this.

The hotel does attempt to offer a food option, via vending machines by reception but it is easy to venture out to many of the close by places.

However the hotel is let down by its "complimentary" breakfast. The saussages had absolutely no taste and the small round yellow 'peas" that was offered as scrambled egg also of similar taste, washed down with a liquid referred to as orange juice. I know its complementary, but how much extra would it cost to offer food that actually tasted as it should. Next time I'll stick to toast

“Horrendous customer service!”

The night management on this particular date were outright disgusting. They were rude from the offset and could tell they had it in for someone that night. We were told that we would have to pay extra for my 14 year old little sister because she looks 19 - even though she had her school uniform and year 10 school planner. When my mother rang up to address this, she was asked why she had a different surname and basically called promiscuous. When my partner went down to try and ask exactly what the action being taken was and how to prove this, he got shouted at and told to "go back upstairs or we'd be out on the streets". So we decided to leave. We couldn't even stay the night with that staff, although we had been up to our room for a few hours and had to unpack & pack again, we had to leave early hours in the morning. After leaving my sister informed me that when I had left the table the staff member in question went up to the table when she was on her own and started asking her a load of bizarre and inappropriate questions - this is very strange. When checking reviews on Google for this particular hotel, it seems other people have had the exact same problem with night management. Us or anyone we know shall not be staying with holiday inn again. Just as the other reviewers have said they're businesses will not - because of this hotel.

Thank you for completing the review on tripadvisor, I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us. I have investigated your comments and viewed the CCTV . It appears from the footage that whilst your sister was registered as a 14 year old, she was drinking alcohol purchased in the hotel . It is our responsibility under the licensing laws to challenge this as our staff did on this occasion.
I apologise if you feel this was not dealt with appropriately and if you would like to discuss the matter with me further please do not hesitate to contact me.

“Location brilliant, parking great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

My wife and I stayed here for two nights in Jan 2012. We used the parking - just £10 per 24hrs, very reasonable for city centre.
Booking in and out were very efficient.
The NIA, ICC, canal trips, museum and New St are all within 10 mins gentle walk. Ask reception for a map, it certainly helps.
Standard Holiday Inn Express fare as far as rooms concerned, just about big enough for two, but with decent TV and tea/coffee supplies. Bed was much more soft than we have met before at the Express chain.
Breakfast at weekends goes on until 11am - and at 10:45 on Sunday morning the eating area was heaving. Luckily we didn't want the full fare, so were OK. We just don't understand why everyone came down so late!
The Shakespere pub next door is owned by the same company and does very good value and tasty grub.
Will stay here again if we are using the NIA etc.

Room Tip: 6th floor is quieter

“Good Budget Hotel”

This is a clean and friendly Hotel in a good location. Small but comfortable rooms, ideal for centre of town.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back away from a minor road.
