On arrival to the NEC Crown Plaza greeted with a barrier and ticket, advising of a £10 parking charge in the middle of the largest free car parking area in the UK (NEC furniture show event), naturally assumed this was just to keep the unwanted out! But to be on the safe side on checking in I asked for confirmation, Shocked at being advised this is applicable to all residents, I expressed disbelieve (having total of 13 nights booked and 4 cars this addition adds £120-although I was offered a 50% discount) to which! I am not having that and refused to accept it, the obvious option was to take the cars out, park them in the NEC car park (the other side of the 3’high wooden fence), my group agreed to this action, but let’s have a pint first. Complaining about this at the Bar, staff advised - Spend £15 at the bar sirs and you get a free parking pass, Yippee - At £4 a pint - Not hard to do “ there you go! Duty manager, problem sorted”,
On checking out, presented with a raised invoice for parking, which I asked to be credited as we had parking passes from the bar…But these do not apply to residents Sir only visitors, you will have to pay, I have to get the manager. We didn’t see reason, Principle got the better of me , I refused to pay , told I could not get out the car park without a pass and would have to pay and I was invited not to choose the crown plaza again, (noted: my estimated expenditure was only £1700).
The fact that I had accumulated the “get out of jail card” from the bar seems to have escaped them? (Principle is a funny & personal thing!)
Other than that, Food expensive but tasty, but not always in stock so to speak, the odd mishap with providing what has been ordered, but friendly staff over all, Although I do take exception to being asked to pay before the meal when they apply the additional 10% service charge, yes optional but when they smile lovely at you and you don’t wish to be mean, only way around this is to charge it to your room, which is against our company policy.
As for the Room - Superb, Nothing to fault at all, excellent night’s sleep, good washroom / shower, then again! Only naff thing was the toilet roll holder... but I’m not a jobs worth.

Dear Guest
Thankyou very much for your review - we do value any feedback positive or negative as its very valuable.
I am glad you enjoyed the hotel, the food and the superb rooms - I will pass on your compliments to relevant departments.
With Regards to car parking - our prices are quite competitive to that of other hotels in our area. I am disheartened about how the pricing structure has been communicated to you.
For over night residents we do charge - £10 per night per car - the 50% discount was offered as a good will gesture as you had 4 cars. The bar informed you of the pricing structure for day guests the £15 pound waiver is for those guests who choose to use the hotel for a few hours or so.
I do apologise about the poor communication and I will ensure that all staff are re trained on the parking policy, and relaying the correct information to our guests.
Many Thanks for your feedback
Clare
