“No frills hotel with comfy beds”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

My heart dropped when I saw the railway station just yards away, but I have to admit that I did not hear a single train (I had a room overlooking the hotel car park,so the opposite side to the railway). The beds were clean and comfy and I had a decent nights sleep. The railway station is right next door but you are not as close to the NEC and airport as I imagined. We paid extra for a 2 course evening meal and breakfast. The main course was good but the hotel had run out of deserts! (They did not inform us of this beforehand so we did not have the option of choosing a starter instead.) The breakfast was very good.

Room Tip: Ask for the ones overlooking the car park (opposite side of the hotel to the railway station).

“Lovely stay and friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

Got a double room at this hotel for half price from a well known site, but on reading some of the reviews posted on trip advisor, i became a little anxious about what we would encounter on our arrival!! However, no need to worry as from a smooth and friendly check in to check out it was a great stay. We had a small double room that was spotlessly clean with tea/coffee facilities, a comfortable and clean bed and what appeared to be a recently refurbished stunning bathroom. We opted not to eat in the restaurant as we didn't think we should come to Birmingham and not have an indian curry. so we discovered a relatively new indian in Acocks Green centre," Shahs", that served one of the best curries i've tasted, in a lovely atmosphere and with the bonus of being able to take your own drinks as it is currently unlicensed. The manager even escorted us out and wished us goodnight after our meal. Wonderful!!! Back to the hotel and after a lovely nights sleep, we had a plentiful and freshly prepared cooked breakfast that was lovely and set us up for the day. The hotel is advertised as being near the NEC and some of the complaints have focused on the fact that it is a couple of miles out. I don't believe that this should be a big issue as the benefits of this hotel is that it has free, plentiful car parking and a train station next door if you wanted to catch the train to the NEC or Birmingham City Centre. For proximity, value for money and the personal touch, i think this hotel is great so please don't be put off by some of the more negative comments. The next time i go to a show at the NEC, i will definately stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the car park are quieter.

“Special Treatment Plus”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2011

This is a family run establishment and from we checked in we were given the best of treatment the room was adequate, clean, tidy and was better than expected,The bathroom was of a resonble size and served the purpose. The view from the room window was of the car park and of a little garden space. The staff were very helpful and added to our experience, The bar was near to the dining area and we made good use of . Last but not least we have to speak of the food from breakfast to dinner that chef is amazing!!!!!!!!.

“Oh dear”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2011

Went to check in and the hotel was locked, yes locked! Had to go home and phone them...no answer, eventually the booking agent got through and I could go back and check in. Following morning....we went down for breakfast....no one around...again. Rang reception bell for 15 mins ( please nbe warned, reception bell does not work) and no answer. Went into the dining hall and it was ......empty. no one around. We left..... hungry! To top it off they then charged us for a no show, yes we paid twice ( I paid cash when I checked in) to stay at this awful place.

When we complained to Choice hotels they didnt confirm reciept of the complaint and when I chsed them they informed us "its a franchise so the hotel will deal with the complaint" Even when dealing with such terrible service they are poor.

To provide some context...this was a gift for our 30th wedding anniversary....Guess what they offered us as some form of customer recovery for this mess.... a free dinner in the same hotel?!

Sir, Whilst I accept some of your criticism not all of it is true, I wish You would give the facts.
On the day it was a series of events that went wrong and when you came to the hotel I explained the situation to you. We had a member of staff who should have been at the reception who let me down without my knowledge. We did not charge you twice this is very very unfair.
I offered to compensate you, wrote to you by email to which I have had no response. I did whatever was humanly possible to rectify the situation but nothing was good enough.
Unfortunately we are all human. And I take offence to unfair criticism.

“Wish I'd looked deeper into the reviews...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2011

I was staying for 2 nights with my father for the The Gadget Show Live which takes place in the NEC. From the name of the title you would expect it to be fairly close to the NEC and the airport, sadly this wasn't the case. When we arrived at the airport we took a taxi to the hotel, we passed the NEC and I thought that we would be at the hotel in a minute. A whole 15 minutes and £20 taxi fare later we arrived at the hotel. We got checked in quickly and the man behind the desk was pleasant and recommended where to get something to eat. However when we return to the hotel our card didn't work to open the front door (it never did for the entire time we stayed!) The bed was the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in, even my dad agreed with me and we both had the worst night sleep I've ever had! Thank goodness the next morning we ate out and the lady behind the desk ordered us a taxi at a reduced price of £11. All and all it was mixed of positive and negative.

Room Tip: Mattress extremely hard! Room fairly clean! Nice and clean!
