“don't listen to the bad reviews, try it for yourself!”

we were a little worried about staying here as i read the bad reviews but we just needed somewhere to stay after a night out in birmingham- which is what we did! we was pleasently surprised! Our room was very clean and the bed (like every travelodge ive stayed in) was very comfortable! one of the reception staff seemed a little immature but the rest of them were very friendly, and also helped us with directions to different places.
the location is brilliant, situated right on broad street by all the clubs and pubs and a short walk away from brindley place and the mailbox! Brilliant!

“Needs Improving”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Stayed at the Travelodge Birmingham Central, located on Broad Street this weekend; not a pleasant experience.

We only paid £25 for our room, but that was all it was worth. I have stayed at several Travelodge hotels over the years, but this is the worst. Shabby, cold reception area which sets the tone for the rest of this establishment. Uncomfortable bed, toilet that didn't flush properly and mould all around bath/shower area. The room also had an old sofa that had seen better days, but was equipped with a kettle for making tea & coffee. The staff at this hotel are pleasant and the room itself was fairly clean, but would avoid on a future visit to Birmingham!

“It is what it is..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

The location is perfect with the sainsburys across the road, and also taxis outside!

the reason i didn't give this hotel perfect was because, the bed had some stains on it, the lifts took ages, so everytime found myself having to use the stairs up 3 flights! I am not joking it around a 5 minute wait on the lift! but hey sure the walk did me good.

The staff are helpful and will help you get a taxi

I will be booking to come back to this hotel again as for the money and the location it is perfect!

Room Tip: Ask to be lower to the ground as if the liftis being slow you dont want the long walk, up and possib...

“'Come in from the cold' that's a joke!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

I had previously stayed at this travelodge with some friends in December 2011 and we were impressed with the locality and price. It was clean but basic and we were happy with our stay.
So much so, I booked for my husband & I at a deal of £15 for a double room for 3/02/12. However, our experince this time was not positive. On entering the room 529, we immediately noticed it was freezing cold. We put the heater on, but it wasn't very effective. A few hours later I went down to reception and explained that the room was freezing. There was no way I could shower in the bathroom, there wasn't any heating in there at all. The bed clothes felt damp & were cold too. The receptionist told me that everyone was complaining about the cold rooms so it wouldn't help for us to change. With this we decided there was no way we could comfortably stay in that room. so we left and checked into Malmaison. This cost £79 and was sheer luxury. Interestingly, if we had booked the travelodge the same day it would have at cost more at £89.

Room Tip: Donot go in winter

“Worst Travelodge I've stayed at”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

I regularly use this chain as I like the cheap and cheerful style, the rooms are usually adequate, the bathroom accessible and the staff as expected. This particular one is ideally situated on Broad Street and is very cheap.

However....

This hotel purports to have disabled facilities. Whilst this is not a lie per se the en suites are completely inadequate for anyone with reduced lower limb function as they ALL have a bath. The desk claimed it was due to the building being archaic. Whatever, if one can get a wheel-in shower in an old Welsh terraced house one can get one on Broad Street! The bathroom had the faint aroma of sewer, there is no air conditioning that I have seen (this is my second, and last, visit) and the black out curtains didn't even cover the window! One light switch didn't work, well it did once but the light flickered annoyingly. This was rectified by using the switch by the bed.

On arrival the lady at the desk was happy to help me with my luggage from the underground car park despite being unable to grasp that it is difficult and dangerous for me to get in and out of a bath (imagine a squid, you'll get the idea). I hope it's free for disabled people haha I think it does state this on the site., I don't tend to 'imagine' free parking. When I needed to leave to meet a friend the desk man told me he couldn't leave the desk to help me with my overnight case. I explained why I had difficulties getting to the car and he told me to wait whilst just standing there. I prompted him to call his colleague and he just looked at me like I was an alien. He then said it wasn't his JOB to assist me (so essentially I was 'trapped') and he refused to give me his manager's contact details. After much persistence he gave me the assistance I required but probably just to get me out of his sight.

Oh, and the lifts worked intermittently and are very small.

On a slightly more positive note the room was as standard, clean enough, and despite the faintly odious aroma the bathroom was as standard.
