“Great!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

Arrived at the Mint Hotel (formerly known as City Inn) only to find it renamed as 'Hilton Garden Inn'. A little confusing, I imagine, if you do not know the area and had not notified in advance. The receptionist said that they had only changed over the week before.

Anyway, that aside, our stay was great! We have stayed there as it is so close to the canal side and NIA so perfect location for gigs as well as nightlife.

The room is simple and clean (some may say contemporary), the bed is a little on the hard side but the pillows and furnishings are great. The bathroom is small (no sharing please) but is perfectly functional, modern, stylish, clean and adequate. Rooms consist of an Apple TV, Ironing board, hairdryer, shampoo/conditioner, shower gel, wardrobe that lights up, air conditioning (warm and cold)...hmm isn't that all you need? Oh yes, and friendly efficient staff!

Overall a great stay and will return.

A comfortable, clean and contemporary hotel. Staff efficient, polite and welcoming.
Everything you would expect from a Hilton hotel.

“Afternoon Tea - City Cafe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We treated ourselves to an afternoon tea at this hotel yesterday to celebrate our 50th Birthdays. We were greeted warmly by Geoffrey who looked after us extremely well. We received complimentary pink champagne with strawberries for our special occasion and the afternoon tea was delicious. Very good value for money and there was so much food that we had to take doggie bags home. A wonderful experience which I'd highly recommend.

“Changed hands, Hilton now and is excellent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I booked this a long time ago when the hotel was The Mint, when I heard it had become a Hilton I was very wary, I can't say I've had anything like a reasonable stay Ian Hilton ever before.
This was different. I stayed all day, had a meeting room, I'd booked this for myself and 6 colleagues, we went out for dinner at 'Bank' nearby.
I have to say it is definitely my choice for a stay in Birmingham, I wouldn't consider looking anywhere else. The rooms and equipment are well covered in other reviews here so I won't cover again.
The staff have been excellent, nothing has been too much trouble at all. Lunch was very good.
I note that one reviewer had a problem at breakfast. I've just had mine, really attentive service, a chef cooking eggs/omelette to order, drink kept topped up without having to ask.
Really good. Writing this review on the free wifi.
Can't fault the hotel but more importantly the staff.
I don't give out many 5 stars, but Hilton Garden gets one from me.

Room Tip: I stayed on the 7th floor, facing the square, no noise at all.

“Fine place to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

As you can tell by the name now, the Mint Hotel was purchased by Hilton Garden Inn at the beginning of this month (February 2012).

Despite the change of ownership I didn't have any issues.

The hotel is an excellent location for business. If you have work in this area, you will have a choice of several good hotels.

I found this hotel average for what I paid which was £119 including breakfast. The bed was OK but not as comfy as a Hilton Garden Inn I stayed in the USA.

The room size was slightly smaller than other UK hotels rated 4 star. Bathroom was small and had to have a inward moving door to compensate for the sink being so close.

Furniture made the room feel like a modern bedroom flat with light pine coloured wood. Felt a bit like upper end Ikea furniture.

On the plus side, it had a full Apple TV setup which is a first I've seen in a hotel. I don't think its a big enough differentiator to come here.

You will not be disappointed with this stay however I found the room very average. I've been told the Hyatt nearby is a better choice.

Now its a hilton though, you have the chance to get your points - if you are a regular stayer this may swing your decision.

Restaurant was very good, staff were friendly and food was fine at breakfast.

Wifi was free.

I recommend the hotel for business only.
