“ok for a business trip”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Stayed for 3 days last week; it was fine but a bit dull. Easy to find in the Hagley road, close to Edgbaston where I was based for the meetings. Car park overflows into adjacent hotel so ok. Reception very willing and check-in speedy although they wanted payment upfront, even though I'd reserved by credit card. Room was clean, a bit tired ie carpet, but bed comfy with fresh linen, and bathroom bright and clean, plenty of hot water- I think recent refurb. Good central heating, and quiet overlooking courtyard, Breakfast fine ie fruit, cereals, toast etc and full English or choice of hot food- pleasant waitress.
Bar was quiet, but friendly barman- didn't try dinner as ate out. Overall adequate for business trip, but a tad boring ie reception areas- not for a family or couple really unless overnight- however very good value for B&B, and close to Broad Street ie Symphony Hall for a night out

Room Tip: Courtyard is quiet

“Faulty Towers?”

Stayed in May, but the trauma of staying remained so thought I'd add my experience. Small, musty, cramped rooms, breakfast adequate. Used Groupon voucher - but only after booking told one person could not book 3nights in a row under their name, but could have rooms booked under different peoples names. So we did this. First night stay was fine, and in the morning we were told that our room was fine for the next 2 nights, but prior to the second night we were told by the manager we could not stay any longer because the person whose name covered the voucher could only stay once. After an hour of arguing and being told we could not stay the night (family of five), the Manager conceded to allow us to stay that night (being around 9PM on a Sunday night). We did not stay the third night as a result of the bad customer service, even though in the morning the manager had changed his mind and told us it would be fine for us to stay a third night. We did not get a refund for the third night.

“Nothing special...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

Normally stay elsewhere, but needed cheap bed for night while visiting student son; our normal hotel choices were fully booked . Reception staff did not acknowledge us when we arrived. There was a list of things we couldn't do, such as bringing extra guests into your room, or bringing food and drink from outside the hotel (we had hoped to get a take-away and bring our son up for an hour or so). On arrival we found no plug in bathroom sink, although when we advised Reception it was dealt with quickly. Shower quite feeble and too small (clingy shower curtain!). Had trouble getting TV to work. Parking space was minimal, and with taxis arriving to drop off people having office parties, it was hard to find a space when we arrived. Had requested a quiet room, but were given one on first floor overlooking the front of hotel and busy Hagley Rd. In the early hours of the morning we were woken by a guy on the street outside shouting and swearing at the top of his voice towards the hotel opposite; it would have been nice if the Reception staff could have asked him to go elsewhere for his rants. The bed was comfy and the room was clean, but I didn't feel that there was much effort from the staff to make guests feel welcome, and the hotel just didn't feel very inviting.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back to avoid road and drunkard noise!

“Good venue for large family party”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

Just returned from a family 70th Birthday meal at the Edgbaston Palace Hotel. Would certainly recommend to anyone looking for a venue only a mile or so from the city centre... Food was from a set menu but the three course meal was good - The room looked recently renovated and bar reasonably priced.

“Very good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

Stayed overnight in December at short notice. Room very clean and good location and easy access to the centre. Breakfast was cooked to order, I had scrambled eggs with salmon much better than many of the breakfasts I have had in more expensive hotels. I would recommend this for a short stay.
