I will start by saying something nice about this hotel. The only thing I can recommend is the location. If you come out of the door and turn to your left and walk for about five minutes, you hit a small town centre with plenty of shops. This is a good idea as if you turn to the right, the only things you will find are small local shops a long walk away and Mecca Bingo.
The hotel itself looks nice enough and communal areas are in a fair state of repair. However, the room we stayed in had peeling wallpaper, a broken shower and the sheets on the bed were dirty with stains, which was fairly unpleasant. The rooms were cleaned on a daily basis, however, the quality of cleaning was very poor. We left the room for them to clean it, returned and found that despite sounds of hoovering, the floor was exactly as we had left it.
However, our main complain has to be the service. There were more staff on the Marie Celeste. Checking in was fine enough, the gentleman at reception was pleasant and we have no complains about that, although they do take the money in advance, this will probably be explained in a moment.
When we came to check out there was seemingly no one in the entire hotel. We came downstairs to find everything was locked up. We tried pressing the buzzer for service and received no response. I wanted to hand my room card to someone rather than just pushing it under a door in case we were charged for an extra night. We waited a whole hour for someone to appear, when he did appear, he came from the inside door, meaning he had been in the hotel the whole time we had been ringing the buzzer. He snapped 'what' at me and scowled when I handed him the card. He was very rude and obviously resented us asking him for anything. He looked very much as though he had just come from his bed.
So overall, fair location, bad hotel.
