“dirty”

Checked in at 3pm on Sunday 6th Feb, luckily I had my laptop with me and found another hotel at the university by 6pm. Why? Read on.
The front door was a bit rubbish, with a greeny grey and rotting wooden door. Nice guy at reception, but the area smelled a bit, er, musky. The room had a phone stuck on the wall but looked like it would fall off at any time, large chunks of paint was peeling off the wall, a large crack in the plasterwork from wall up to and including the ceiling. The tv had a rawlplug which you pushed in to switch the set on and pull to switch it off. I pulled and it came out. The net curtains were black with dirt and damp, the window was cracked and it was impossible to see out of. I did lay on the bed for about 10 minutes but started to itch a bit. I'm not saying that there was a bedbug infestation, more likely the whole place just felt filthy. I wonder what the breakfast would have been like, on second thoughts I'd rather not wonder. Asked for my money back for my second day and the reception guy just said yes with no question

“Good Price, Ideal Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2011

A few of my friends came to Birmingham for a night out and I was concerned about fitting people into the room. I called the hotel direct and spoke to Aaron who was very friendly and helpful. He did mention that one of the rooms were slightly larger than the others and a way I could possibly find the room at a better price. He was wonderful and made me feel like I made the right move booking this hotel.

When we arrived, the receptionist was helpful. Not that much info given on breakfast or if we wanted help with out luggage and things, but there was a group of us. She did allow us all to pay there and then separately which saved us a lot of hassle of sorting out who owed who later...

For the price we paid, the room was decent, clean and somewhere to sleep. TV didn't work and the shower had a few problems but we all washed before we got there so it wasn't really a problem.

Ideal location as there was a bus stop right outside the hotel, a tesco express just down the road and parking spaces right outside. Would probably use this hotel again if I was travelling friends and taking them out it Birmingham. ^_^

“Cheap and cheerful!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2011

No doubt, you'll have read the other reviews that go on about how dreadful this hotel is. Yes, it is basic and yes, it could do with some modernisation but we found it to be good quality for the price we paid. All beds and bedding were spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The room and communal ares were all also clean and tidy and did not smell. Admittedly, we didn't try the breakfast but neither could we smell it, as suggested in other reviews. Yes, the walls are thin but not enough for sleep to be disturbed. There was a kettle, mugs, tea, coffee and milk, clean towels, etc. The hotel staff were cheerful and helpful. Obviously read all reviews but still book this hotel if you just want a basic clean and comfortable room and you'll get what you pay for. We would definately recommend it.

“Absolute dump PLEASE READ”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2010

Arrived at the hotel looked ok from the outside then we were shown our rooms omg never experienced anything like it. We were travelling with my daughter and her boyfriend for her birthday. Both rooms were freezing cold, the carpets were filthy covered in cigarette burns. My husband and my room had no kettle no cups nor any tea or coffee. The bathroom was covered in mildew and swamped with insects. The walls were filthy and i wouldn't like to comment on what people had smeared on them. Both rooms were covered in cigarette burns. We were supposed to stay 2 nights but decided to look for somewhere else for the second night. We stayed up all night as i didn't even want to see what was under the covers. To call it a hotel is an absolute joke. The bar consisted of a man at reception selling bottled beer. No direct dial telephone in the rooms. The WIFI was only at reception

This place looked fine from the website., Indeed, when we arrived it looked...er...ok. Then we entered the reception. The guy was friendly enough, but it was all patter to getting us to pay the £119.90 for the 2 nights B&B for myself, my missus and my 8yr old daughter. I was told there was a bar and pool table and sky tv. According to Monsier front desk, (a) the bar isn't really a bar (eh?!), you can have (on draught) Carling or Strongbow, but others from the refrigerator behind the "reception". Haha. The bar consisted of an empy room with a couple of tables, a pool table which didn't have any balls, and erm NOTHING else. We went up to our room which was rubbish to say the least. My dining room was bigger than this, and I'm not being posh. We decided to go out at the earliest opportunity. Had a nice meal at the Beefeater in Edgbaston , followed by us falling asleep at said dive about 11pm. At 3am I awoke. To the sounds of next door arguing then doing the dirty for 1 and a half hours. That's not the hotel's fault, well it is because the walls are paper thin.
Suffice to say, it's rubbish. They ask you to pay BEFORE you see your room. It was SO bad we drove 120 miles back to Leeds rather than stay the second night. That must tell you something.
