“better than expected!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

my room was ok. tv was a bit fuzzy. the bed sheets were clean and the bed was comfy. i think i paid £40 for the night. the breakfast was fantastic, the girl on reception was a bit busy when i got there so check in took about 10mins.we asked for extra pillows from the night guy and he was more than accomodating and made me feel welcome,. he also gave me my breakfast and was happy to go out his way to make me a boiled egg.
overall you get what you pay for and i will deffo use this place again.

Room Tip: ask alan for room 14.

“Terrible, never again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2011

The bathrooms looked dingy, hair stuck on sticky walls etc. My friend said her bed felt like it had been 'used' fairly recently, still smelt like it..

Didn't want to examine anything too closely after that just wanted to get through the night and get out.

Room Tip: Find somewhere else to stay, lots of hotels where this one is.

“The worst hotel I have ever stayed in.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2011

Even though we checked in after 4pm, one of the rooms was not ready, and all 5 of us had to wait in the other room whilst it was supposedly 'cleaned'. When we did get into the second room the only thing I can say that was clean was the bed sheets, everything else was either dirty or broken - the shower door was hanging off, the bathroom door didn't shut, there was still soap and water in the shower soap tray, and every other surface just looked unclean. The walls needed replastered and painted, the tv ariel would not stay in the socket making it unusable, there were mirrors at unusable heights on the walls, and because we were in a ground floor room at the front of the hotel, it was very noisy, both from the party that was held on our windowsill at 2am, and also from the hotel reception. We didn't have time to book anywhere else that night as we were going out, but on our return to the hotel later on I immediately booked another hotel for the following night, despite having paid for 2 nights at The Grove. We left before breakfast the next day, as I did not want to even see the state of the dining room. Our request for a refund was refused, and we were told that the manager was out of the country and could not be contacted. My email to him has since been ignored.

“dirty”

Checked in at 3pm on Sunday 6th Feb, luckily I had my laptop with me and found another hotel at the university by 6pm. Why? Read on.
The front door was a bit rubbish, with a greeny grey and rotting wooden door. Nice guy at reception, but the area smelled a bit, er, musky. The room had a phone stuck on the wall but looked like it would fall off at any time, large chunks of paint was peeling off the wall, a large crack in the plasterwork from wall up to and including the ceiling. The tv had a rawlplug which you pushed in to switch the set on and pull to switch it off. I pulled and it came out. The net curtains were black with dirt and damp, the window was cracked and it was impossible to see out of. I did lay on the bed for about 10 minutes but started to itch a bit. I'm not saying that there was a bedbug infestation, more likely the whole place just felt filthy. I wonder what the breakfast would have been like, on second thoughts I'd rather not wonder. Asked for my money back for my second day and the reception guy just said yes with no question

“Good Price, Ideal Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2011

A few of my friends came to Birmingham for a night out and I was concerned about fitting people into the room. I called the hotel direct and spoke to Aaron who was very friendly and helpful. He did mention that one of the rooms were slightly larger than the others and a way I could possibly find the room at a better price. He was wonderful and made me feel like I made the right move booking this hotel.

When we arrived, the receptionist was helpful. Not that much info given on breakfast or if we wanted help with out luggage and things, but there was a group of us. She did allow us all to pay there and then separately which saved us a lot of hassle of sorting out who owed who later...

For the price we paid, the room was decent, clean and somewhere to sleep. TV didn't work and the shower had a few problems but we all washed before we got there so it wasn't really a problem.

Ideal location as there was a bus stop right outside the hotel, a tesco express just down the road and parking spaces right outside. Would probably use this hotel again if I was travelling friends and taking them out it Birmingham. ^_^
