“Good Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I've just returned from a one-night business-related stay at this hotel. This hotel wasn't my first choice, as there was a Holiday Inn which was literally only minutes from where my work for the day was, but they were quoting £145 for the night, room only (I've stayed in Marriots and other 4* Hotels for less than that!).
The Best Western Westley Hotel were advertising 'executive' rooms (no standard doubles available) for £94 inc breakfast, although the hotel is around 2.5 miles from Solihull centre.
On arrival, the Hotel reception area and the surrounds were in a good condition, and the check-in pleasant and swift (after a little confusion re my room, which was probably my fault).
My 'executive' room was well furnished and decorated, as was my en-suite, with quality fittings.
The bed was lovely, with good quality bedding, and all spotless in terms of cleanliness.
My only negative comments re the room, (as mentioned by a previous reviewer) was 1) The size - they are small for 'executive' rooms. 2) My room (number 10) was also very warm - although the radiator was switched off. Some discussion with the Restaurant staff identified that the room was over the kitchen. I had to keep the window open all night to make it possible for a comfortable night's sleep.
I ate in the Hotel restaurant, and found the food to be first-class, as was the service - attentive and friendly without being too pushy. Breakfast was also good - although, as is often the case these days, of buffet style, which I seldom find to be hot enough.
In summing up, whilst not in a particularly 'scenic' area, I would not hesitate to stay again in this hotel, should the need arise.

Room Tip: Avoid number 10 - or keep the window open all night (although you will be subject to the kitchen'...

Dear Bob
Many thanks for your recent positive review. The feedback is much appreciated. I will of course look into the warmth issue in room 10, to see what we can do to correct when we next refurbish this bedroom. I am delighted that you had a good stay and found our team pleasant and helpful. We very much look forward to welcoming you back to the Westley when you are next in the area.
Kind regards
Rob Sullivan

“Really good”

Reception is both professional and accommodation. The hotel is located near shops, bars, restaurants etc. Huge car park at the rear which is the reception area is. In house bar is open to non-residents and has a cosy and welcoming feel.

Rooms are of a high standard with all the usual facilities. My bathroom was beautiful with contemporary fittings and sparkling clean.

All in all a good hotel which caters for business and leisure.

“Executive Rooms not really Executive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

We stayed at the Westley the same time as GillcheshireUK but were not part of the 'Carlow Association Dinner Dance'

Our room was small with a double bed (not a king) and had steps down into the bathroom. Not what I expect from an 'Executive Room' and the 'Premier Inn' we stayed at the next 2 nights was a far better room.at 50% of the price.

This was by far the worst Best Western we have stayed in to date and I am also a 'Rewards' Member so am a regular user of Best Western Hotels.

Apart from the room issues the general soundproofing was poor. You could hear noise from the bar until the small hours, even though it was closed to all but residents.

Our biggest gripe though was the noise from those attending the Carlow Association Dinner. Members of that group were running down the corridors from 2.30 - 4.00 am on Sunday moning, shouting, singing and creating a serious disturbance which hotel staff just ignored.

Whilst a 'one off' it did influence how we felt overall about the stay.

Saturday night was also a 'Carvery' night and was ... poor. The beef was tough, as were the roast potatoes and the gravy was no better than water.

Sunday morning, the cooked breakfast had been cooked hours in advance (we were there at 0.800 when the restauaunt opened as well) and appeared to have been left keeping hot to the point that the bacon was like old cardboard.

Probably because the 'chefs' had a very busy night on the Saturday and cut a few corners for the Sunday Breakfast.

Next time we go to the NEC we will definately not stay at the Westley

Room Tip: Decline any room upstairs above the 'pub'

“first class”

We attended The Carlow Association Dinner Dance and it was the 2nd time we have stayed in this hotel ,the fist time we stayed in the annex and found that comfortable and clean . this time we were in the main building and it was superb, very clean nicely decorated throughout. the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was modern and a good size, not the dark pokey broom cupboard that most hotels provide. The breakfast was buffet style and eggs were freshly cooked as you asked for them. From check in to check out was first class and the staff were pleasant helpful and very polite.Would highly recommend this hotel.

“Westley Review”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

4th stay at the Westley and still good value for money. As a Rewards scheme member got a free upgrade to an executive room,. Stayed 2 nights Saturday / Sunday, had SUnday lunch from the carvery. Excellent service from all the staff.
Slight criticism is that Sunday evening is karoake in the bar so if you need a quiet meal probably best to eat elsewhere as restaurant is not open Sunday evenings and if your room over looks the bar area you may be disturbed by late leavers at 12:00pm. Hotel manager has responded to these small criticism very favourably with some good suggestions. Will be staying in the future as very good location for NEC and city centre.

Room Tip: Stay in main house and if at weekend try and stay away from bar area
