Stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks while in Birmingham on a training course for work. The hotel is positioned near a busy main road in a not particularly nice area of Birmingham. I was woken regularly throughout the nights by general traffic and frequent passing emergency services with sirens on despite being in rooms at the back of the building. There is nothing within walking distance except a McDonalds.
The rooms are small and cheap, my room the first week had a strong smell of cigarette smoke despite apparently being a non smoking room. My room the second week had large stains on the carpet, and strong awful stale smell which seemed to come from the bathroom (which appeared to be otherwise clean) and the window handle was broken. Room keys take several attempts to work and deactivate often.
The rooms had not been hoovered when I arrived and was not hoovered at all during my stay, similarly the surfaces were not wiped. On the second week when I arrived there was a sweet wrapper on the padded bench, it was still there when I left.
The towels supplied were very small and did not smell clean at all, very unpleasent.
The showers run at inconsistent temperatures and every 3-4 minutes become scalding hot.
The restaurant is just a few tables and chairs in the reception area and the food is overpriced for what it is- fresh from the microwave. Not equipped for dealing with more than a few diners and when it was only half full I waited up to 40minutes for my meal.
This hotel is also near a local football ground, I was unfortunate enough to be staying here while there was a game on and the restaurant/reception area was extremely busy with football fans, many of whom were walking in with their own alcohol. There were no available seats for people actually staying in the hotel and therefore eating in was not an option.
The only positive thing I have to say about this hotel is that the staff were all friendly and helpful, unfortunately it is not enough and I would never stay at this hotel again.
Considering you can get a Premier Inn for a similair price, it is really not worth £55 a night.
