I recently stayed here on business for five nights while attending a trade show at the NEC. This was probably the fourth of fifth time, other stays have been alright, but this time I felt that something had changed, had the hotel changed hands, not sure. A previous reviewer commented on the receptionist peering over the counter, not very welcoming. Having to wait for bar staff to appear was not good, especially after a hard day's work. The room I had was adequate, clean spacious, with everything to hand, but I did hear of problems from some of my colleagues too, like hot (only HOT) water in one room. But for all the time I was there, there was a dead fly on one of the window sills on the stairs, it hadn't been cleaned away in all of the five days. Food was adequate, but breakfasts were far too greasy, the fried eggs under done, a waitress took away bread rolls before we had finished, claiming they were running short. One meal my colleagues had, three different steaks were ordered, but they were all (under) cooked. All in all, a lovely old building, but it needs a bit of something to bring it to life.
