We spent a week in Britain on our way to the U.S. from Africa. We stayed in 4 places while in England, and this was the best. Decima is a wonderful host. The home is beautiful, the beds comfortable, the breakfast wonderful. The walk to Stratford was beautiful and magical, especially in the moonlight after seeing "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Thank you so much.

Cross of the Hill came highly recommended to me by a friend and I wasn't disappointed with our 2 night stay as part of a long weekend in Stratford The location was perfect for a relaxing walk into Stratford along scenic footpaths. We had a room with a wonderful veranda to take in the morning air and admire the view and the peacefullness of it all There was no on suite with our room but our bathroom was just a couple of paces from the bedroom door . The room was very tastefully decorated, clean, bright and airy.
After a full day sightseeing followed by a very good dinner ,at A place called the Vintner , I was very very happy to flop in to the comfy bed with crisp cotton sheets and pillows to die for …I wanted to take that bed home !!!. Breakfast was good and healthy it made a welcome change from the greasy fry ups you often get leaving one feeling bloated all day . My husband and I had a wonderful weekend and we will most defiantly visit Stratford again and stay at Cross of the hill.

Mixed feelings about this place. It's in a brilliant location and it's a fabulous place, only 20 minutes walk into the town centre over the fields. The rooms are very smart and comfortable, although not all have en-suite. We paid full price, got en-suite first night then had to move to room without bathroom second night because of a mix up, no discount offered. The hosts are OK, friendly enough. But when you pay £90 per night you would expect a decent breakfast. I've had better breakfasts in the Little Chef! Badly cooked, tasteless, tiny portions - just rubbish. Felt completely ripped off. If they offer you a smoothie - say no, that's rubbish too!

There are so few places where one stays while traveling that truly feel like home. Places one doesn't want to leave and, when one does, can't wait to return to. From the minute we first saw the tasteful, hand-painted sign and turned into the Chestnut-lined drive we knew we had arrived at just such a place. Traveling through the tunnel of trees the grand house emerges at the end of the orchard alongside.

The location couldn't be more convenient to Stratford-Upon-Avon, this literally being the first farmhouse accommodation outside of town on the way to the Cotswolds. The house feels very welcoming and one can see oneself "at home" instantly with a baby grand and sofas in the lounge, well appointed large rooms with large beds to accommodate all easily. (We are both tall and appreciated this a great deal.)

After our first visit (in 1984) we have returned to XOH (Cross o' th' Hill) many times year after year in different seasons and have stayed in the various rooms. We have always found the proprietors to be warm, welcoming, pleasant and very helpful with suggestions regarding how to make the most of our visit to the area. Still if, as I did the first time I was there, all one did was stay around the house, rest, eat, read, paint, and stroll into town for a little Shakespeare... one couldn't ask for a more pleasant holiday.

With only 3 rooms (each with their own private bath or shower) the house never feels crowded even when full. The low-fat version of the “English Breakfast” should please both the British and visitors from other lands with its emphasis on fresh, local, low-fat and organic ingredients when possible. I am vegetarian and was always offered plenty of healthy food for breakfast. Last time we were there there were fresh fruit smoothies offered, too!

We have found Cross o' th' Hill Farm to be the perfect place, again and again, from which to explore Warwick, Stratford-Upon-Avon, and the beautiful gardens, houses, villages and other sites of the Cotswolds. Stay here and you won't be sorry.
