“Friendly helpful staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

We spent two nights at the Mary Arden along with our American friend. Rooms were small and a little tired but, very clean. Food in the bar was plentiful and typical average pub fayre. The situation, in a small village, is very pleasant and quiet. It is an ideal location just a few minutes drive from Stratford on Avon and visiting all the Shakespeare houses. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast freshly cooked to order. All in all this is a pub with rooms and providing you are not looking for five star accommodation, just clean and comfortable for a short stay, and get the rooms at a budget price, you will not be dissappointed. .

Room Tip: The single room has a tiny bathroom with tiny shower but was actually larger than our double room on...

“best atmosphere, friendly, beautiful room, reasonable prices”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

wonderful, wonderful!
a beautiful room (with the somewhat unpleasant name "merchant of Venice"), beautifully decorated, spacious, big, well equipped bathroom with a tub (only guests are asked to dip in one by one - so no romantic baths together!) , great atmosphere of an old, rustic English cottage. friendly, helpful service made us feel as if we were hosted by friends at their private home. lovely garden and village scene - lots of nice walks available very near. good food reasonably priced, great English breakfast with bonuses - and the chef - oh my - what a friendly, talkative, humorous guy! all in all a great experience.
a word to the owners - it may be a good idea to move the TV so it is easier to watch it, no seats in front of it and no angle from the bed - but then again, who wants to watch TV when you are there? enjoy the place or go for a walk along the canal!)

Room Tip: all rooms are well described.

“Poor service and unclean”

I stayed in this hotel in early sep 2011. I found the whole place in need of good clean. The rooms were dated and funiture and bedding were not clean. In addition there were trees growing through the windows from the outside walls. The shower within the bathroom was very small, which meant washing was difficult.

The staff were unhelpful and one member of staff was carrying a can of beer in his hand throught my stay. The english breakfast in the morning consisted of bacon and eggs etc, and the thinest blackpudding i have ever seen. I would not recommend this establishment at all.

Room Tip: Don't stay here

“Great value, wonderful atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

We just loved our one night stay here and the location over a country pub was just great. Staff were very helpful and the room was delightful. Oh and the dog was very friendly too, and we would definitely stay again.

“A delightful, reasonably priced place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

A great place to stay. Very homely feel, with friendly staff. The hotel hostess/greeter (Jessie the dog) was a wonderful addition. Good breakfast (best poached eggs in UK). Wilmcote is a wonderful, picturesque village with an interesting history locals were only too happy to share. Received many friendly "good mornings" on walk around the beautiful canals. Handy to Stratford on Avon. Do stay here!
