“Loved the experience”

I stayed in various hotels of various value in the US, but I loved the Carlton Guesthouse. I found there wonderful people who cared about my sleep, my tastes, by breakfast, my health and my overall experience in Stratford upon Avon. Silvia, the owner was very nice she always gave us directions and tips on banking, shopping and restaurants. Her husband is a wonderful cook. The rooms are cozy and very homy. The location is amazing, it is close to everything.

“A Most Enjoyable Long Weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2008

We spent Valentine's weekend at the Carlton and we were very pleased indeed. A warm welcome by the owners greeted us and we were told where to park the car (across the main road and down an alley in a shared car park). Room was very comfortable. We were asked at the time of booking if we could manage the stairs to a second floor room. Our room had an ensuite shower/WC (very clean) , TV and tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast was a veritable feast of items freshly cooked to order and second helpings were offered. Extra toast, juice, tea and coffee were offered. All in all, a most comfortable, enjoyable experience and one we will repeat. when we next go to Stratford.

“Worst B&B ever.”

Extremely nosey and interfering owners. Noisy rooms. Very untrusting. Chased to the car by both owners whilst packing our bags because they thought we were going to run off!!

“I cannot praise it enough”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2007

I was referred to the Carlton by a neighbor hotel that was booked up already. I had to make reservations by phone, as the owner is not web-savvy. Also note, she doesn't take plastic.

However..
The owner greeted me by name when we arrived. She couldn't have been more gracious. After showing us to our room, she offered to make us some tea, despite the fact that there is a hot pot and tea and coffee in the room. It was like staying with a doting aunt, she couldn't do enough to make us comfortable. We were also allowed to leave our bags there after checking out so we could sightsee some more before catching our train. And to top it all off, it was the least expensive room we stayed in during a whole week. Might have been off-season rates, but £44 for two people including a big breakfast is an exceptional value.

The sightseeing bus tour has a stop just a few doors down as well. The whole town is really small. You can walk up the street and be in the market square in a couple minutes. The train station is only about 12 minutes walk.

“Gem of a B & B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2006

Wonderful owners, lovely hugh full english breakfast, rooms were sweet, clean, fully equipped. Only thing is I wish B & Bs took credit cards - we Americans live off our plastic - atms included and its a good way to have all your receipts etc. So other than the lack of credit card usage the place was a little gem. Within walking distance to everything, There was no sitting room available but not really necessary as rooms have a chair.

  • Liked — cleanliness and owners
  • Disliked — no internet no credit cards
  • Tips/Secrets — free internet at the library about 15 minutes walk away
