“This is a HOSTEL - and NOT a B & B”

I went with my parents to this "hotel" .They are re-naming it "Aroura" as obviously the reviews are so bad! I was actually appauled by this place. Mainly because of the price for a double (£80) Single (£40) It was dirty in places, and reminded me of staying in hostels. We wanted a boutique style place - which it kind of is - but really, it just lacked care and attention. The staff were attentive, but bribed us with cake and free coffee whilst we waited for things to be done, as the rooms were'nt ready and light fittings didn't work. It was all a little depressing. We even came back to see the coffee cups that we had at 1pm to still be there on the table at 7pm!!! I wouldn't recommend this place!

“Ideally situated, family establishment with top notch service”

My girlfriend and I stayed here for two nights just after new year as a treat between moving houses. We'd stayed in Stratford before and have had a mixed bag of accommodation, and can honestly say the marlyn outclassed every other considerably. Welcoming staff, well sized rooms combined with a perfect location, (equidistant between train station and beautiful river setting and gardens) and plenty enough facilities made a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Highly recommended.

“A Home Tour”

We arrived midday at The Marlyn Hotel to be greeted by the owner who seated us in the lounge with a small bar from which he offered us a drink before we proceeded to be shown our rooms.

Our rooms were modern and quite trendy which differs from most B&Bs i've stayed in, which make me feel like I'm living in the 1950's. My room in particular was bright, vibrant and had everything i need. We spent a couple of our free hours in the town and coming back to the B&B was both refreshing and relaxing.

When we got back from our show we had no issues with late night access to the hotel and I had a great sleep. In the morning we had a friendly chat with the owner and went on our way. Still on tour now and no B&B has felt the same yet. Thanks very much and if we return to Stratford their will be no doubt I will be staying at The Marlyn Hotel.

“Most awful hotel I have ever stayed in”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2010

We booked for arrival at 4pm. Upon arrival we were told we booked 7PM. The room was cold and the TV was Broken. The room was grubby and places by the bed and behind the cabinet were discusting. The room was very small and the door fell off the shower cubicle..needs a complete make over.

But the worst tyhing in the morning was an awful breakfast..everything stone cold and the sausage nearly raw!.There was no one around but an eastern european woman who could not speak englias!! Eventually they took the breakfast away and it came back with just the sausage cooked!! Everything else stone cold!! Other guests were very upset at the state of the breakfast and started calling the place Fawlty Towers.
really the worst experience in a bed and breakfast! Late rooms say its 4 star..On the door it says 3 star and in my ratings less than 1 star..A really awful experience. Avoid it if you can.

“Generally Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2010

This B&B is in a great location for the town centre, had a comfortable bed and a friendly woman on staff. However, there were several things that were inadequate. The whole place seemed to be being run by this one member of staff, who, although helpful, was foreign and couldn't always understand easily. I only met 'the boss", briefly, when I was trying to sort out my non-working television, but there was an absence of that welcoming and homely feel that so many B&Bs are good at. I had to move rooms before my second night, in a big rush as I was on my way out, as there had been a mix up over bookings. I was asked to leave my room door ajar when I went out on the first morning, as the master key was lost and the cleaner wanted to be able to get in. There were cobwebs in both rooms I stayed in. In the first, the TV would not work on the first evening and I had to ask twice for it to be changed. A few practical things had not been thought through - it was very hard to get at the adjustable radiator knob as it was down by the side of the wardrobe, and this also applied to the socket in my second room. The bedside lamp didn't work. The towels were very thin. Worst of all, the cooked breakfast contained items that were simply cold and uncooked (beans, sausage), and my fellow guests at breakfast were clearly even more unimpressed than me with the general standards of the B&B. Little touches were missing - no tea-bags in second room, no milk jug with breakfast tea, cold breakfast items understocked. When I left (cash only), I was given a receipt but the woman went off into the back and I was left wondering whether I was to wait for something else, as there was no goodbye or other pleasantries! In fairness, she was probably feeling quite harrassed as the other guests were complaining and she seemed to be holding the fort single-handedly. A convenient location for me, and cheaper than other B&Bs, but I would not stay again or recommend.
