“Just Booked Our Fourth Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 March 2009

We first stayed at the Meridian by accident, as the guest house we had booked over Christmas 2007 was going to be closed. The owner helpfully arranged an alternative, which was the Meridian. We've always had Room 1 to date, which is spacious with a bathroom I absolutely love and some wonderful period furniture. The house is warm and comfortable, and within easy walking distance of everywhere in Stratford that you might want to go. There's never been a parking problem, as the drive manages to take everyone's car - a definite plus in a place as crowded as Stratford. Jo treated us as friends from the start and makes time to chat - on arrival, at breakfast and on departure. We've never found the place anything but clean and as for the breakfast, we've always found it to be more than enough, freshly cooked and delicious. Like a previous reviewer, I'm not sure where the first reviewer stayed but it can't have been the Meridian as we know and love it.

“Can't Wait To Come Back Again... Our Favourite Place In The Whole World!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2009

What can I stay about the Meridian? It would be really hard to fit it all into this small space! We have just returned from our seventh stay with Jo and the family and could not have had a better weekend... as always, not a single complaint... only that we had to come home.

We first visited the Meridian as a young couple on their first holiday together. I'd booked it for my other half as a birthday treat as the gigantic french bed in room 4 was just perfect for his 6ft 7in frame! This now seems to have become our second home! We have returned for another 3 birthdays, two theatre visits (it would have been just rude not to have made a weekend of it!) and of course our Honeymoon! Our last visit was also our very first family holiday together with our new son... who was also made to feel outstandingly welcome and even went off visiting the family while we finished off our morning cuppa's! He was also rather partial to Jo's sausage and scrambled egg! When we think about going anywhere we always come back to the Meridian... it is the place where we are the happiest in the whole world!

So... what do you need to know? Rooms - fabulous, full of character and all the home comforts that you could wish for. Magazines and novels to read, Tea and coffee facilities, T.V, gorgeous shower, comfy bed, spotlessly clean, and beautifully decorated!

Food - amazing cooked breakfast, all the cereal you could wish for, juice, tea, coffee and of course Jo's charming and stimulating conversation! If it can fill my husband up to bursting then it has done a very very good job! It's amazing year on year to find out what everyone is up to and what's been going on in and around town! Forget a guide book... Jo's the one you need for an amazing stay!

Location - 10 mins walk from the Birthplace, 15 mins to the RSC... what more could you ask for? Set in a beautiful residential street, and lovely walks in either direction! Jo also let us leave our car on the drive and we never have any need to use it as we find so much to do!

Needless to say we've already booked visit number 8 for the summer and it is in big bold letters on our calender! Not sure where the guy who wrote the other review stayed but it certainly wasn't at the Meridian!

Thanks Jo and all the family for making every single stay an amazing and memorable one... The Cottingham's will certainly be coming back for many many years to come!

“Home Away from Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2009

Our latest visit to Meridian lived up to all expectations. As ever, we were greeted by Johanna's cheery smile and warm welcome.

My retreat in the eves of the house (room 4), with views across Stratford to the Warwickshire countryside, awaited cosy and warm. Instead of room 1, which was occupied, my friend was in room 3. This room had been newly decorated and proved to be a comfortable, clean and calm space in which to unwind and relax.

Catching up with all the inside news on Stratford, and especially the RSC, is always great fun and informative with someone as knowledgeable and interesting as Johanna. So, with the low-down on 'Love's Labours Lost' we headed off for an indulgent evening of fantastic theatre with an amazing ensemble cast, lead by the scrummy David Tennant.

Walking back to Meridian, away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds chattering about the performance, we looked forward to climbing into those freshly made beds and an indulgent hot chocolate.

In the morning, breakfast! Lots of different cereals, fruit (fresh & dried), yoghurt, toast, coffee, tea (including nettle!) and, of course, one of Johanna's delicious platefuls, cooked to order, with scrambled eggs just the way I like them. More chatter and analysis and, very importantly, lots of laughter as we discussed last night's play.

As we both wanted to wander around Stratford before wending our way back home, we left the car and our luggage with Johanna, knowing that everything would be safe.

Visiting the RSC and Stratford without staying at the Meridian is simply unimaginable. A base just 15 minutes walk from the theatre that is extremely reasonably priced, clean, homely and always accompanied by a warm, family welcome is a real treat!

“loved the meridian !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2008

i am not sure about the previous revewers experiance , but having just returned from 2 nights at the meridian i can only recomend it !
our room was beautifully decorated , with extra touches such as a kettle and hot chocolate available in room , as well as a selection of teas and coffees . there were nice extras such as magazines in the room as well . we had an attached bathroom next door , which was very clean , and had a loverly warm shower.
( please note the rooms are all on the upper floors so would not be suitable for people with mobility issues )
it was been a very cold few day's , but the room was always very warm .
the meridian is located about a 10 minute walk to the centre of the town and about 15 mins to the rsc theatre , so it is in a very handy location .
breakfast was included , and was a selection of cereals , fruit and yougut as well as a very good hot breakfast , cooked to order .
there was parking available off street for my friend to park her car ,and we were able to leave it at the house after we had checked out , so we could spend the rest of the day free without the hassle of having to find a safe parking place .
the owner, johanna could not have been more welcoming , helpfull or freindly throughout our stay , and if i visit stratford again , i will definatly be back and can definalty recomend the meridian to all !

“Not over impressed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2008

Very shabby and in need of updating, and a bit more cleaning. Close to town and theatres in pleasant, quiet street. Thought we were on rations at breakfast time.
