My partner and I stayed at the Castle Laurels Guest house for one night while we attended a track day at the Prodrive test circuit.
After a long day of driving (we came up from Kent) and standing around at the circuit followed by some sightseeing at nearby Stratford-upon-Avon, it was lovely to be able to relax at the hotel.
Arrival & Facilities:
We were warmly greeted when we arrived, and shown to our room where we had complimentary tea and coffee making facilities available, along with a fresh fruit basket. The hotel is next to a fairly busy road, but our room had excellent double glazing and it completely cut out the noise from the street, which was quiet at night anyway. The hotel had free wireless broadband which was fast, and if you didn't have smartphone or a laptop handy there was a computer available in the lounge for guest use.
The room itself wasn't huge, but big enough for two. The bed was comfy, and Freeview was available on the television. There was space for storing clothes in the wardrobe, which also contained spare pillows, blankets and a fold-away chair and table if you needed space to work.
The bathroom was modern and clean - there was some evidence of a bit of damp on the wallpaper at the top of the bathroom window, although it was old and didn't smell or put me off at all. There were complimentary toiletries also avaialable.
Dining:
In the morning, we went down to the dining room and had a lovely breakfast prepared freshly for us with local produce. There was an extensive choice between cooked meals (full English, poached eggs on toast, bacon/sausage/egg sandwiches etc), along with there being cereal and fruit and yoghurt options available too. The hotel did offer dinner and snacks, although we didn't take up this option as we went out for our evening meal.
Local area:
The hotel is only a 5 minute walk away from the town of Kenilworth, which is full of a number of lovely pubs and restaurants (we went to the "Almanac" - a little pricey but lovely food, surroundings and cocktails). It is also just around the corner from Kenilworth Castle, making it ideal for sightseeing. The hotel offers free parking to its guests, so you can explore further afield if you like: Stratford-upon-Avon is a lovely town that is only 14 miles away, and it's feasible to get to Leamington Spa, Warwick and Coventry too.
Overall:
We had a lovely stay, and have reccommended friends to stay here too! Don't be put off by negative reviews, we had no such problems at all! The staff were lovely, the food was excellent quality, and we had a thouroughly relaxing stay.
