“what a fantastic stay”

We attended an exhibition show in NEC and stayed at Castle Laurels guest house, it was extremely nice stay and so convenient to everywhere!! We visited the Warwick Castle and Kenilworth Castle after attending the show and decided to extend our stay for one more night to visit William Shakespeare's birth place in Stratford-upon-Avon.
The hotel itself has unique characters with lots of original features, antiques and painting in the lounge room and reception.
The breakfasts were out-of this world, keep my colleagues and me going for the whole day. the staff also extremely friendly, gave us lots information for our trip.

“Castle Laurels is a great little place for a stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2010

My partner and I stayed at the Castle Laurels Guest house for one night while we attended a track day at the Prodrive test circuit.
After a long day of driving (we came up from Kent) and standing around at the circuit followed by some sightseeing at nearby Stratford-upon-Avon, it was lovely to be able to relax at the hotel.

Arrival & Facilities:
We were warmly greeted when we arrived, and shown to our room where we had complimentary tea and coffee making facilities available, along with a fresh fruit basket. The hotel is next to a fairly busy road, but our room had excellent double glazing and it completely cut out the noise from the street, which was quiet at night anyway. The hotel had free wireless broadband which was fast, and if you didn't have smartphone or a laptop handy there was a computer available in the lounge for guest use.
The room itself wasn't huge, but big enough for two. The bed was comfy, and Freeview was available on the television. There was space for storing clothes in the wardrobe, which also contained spare pillows, blankets and a fold-away chair and table if you needed space to work.
The bathroom was modern and clean - there was some evidence of a bit of damp on the wallpaper at the top of the bathroom window, although it was old and didn't smell or put me off at all. There were complimentary toiletries also avaialable.

Dining:
In the morning, we went down to the dining room and had a lovely breakfast prepared freshly for us with local produce. There was an extensive choice between cooked meals (full English, poached eggs on toast, bacon/sausage/egg sandwiches etc), along with there being cereal and fruit and yoghurt options available too. The hotel did offer dinner and snacks, although we didn't take up this option as we went out for our evening meal.

Local area:
The hotel is only a 5 minute walk away from the town of Kenilworth, which is full of a number of lovely pubs and restaurants (we went to the "Almanac" - a little pricey but lovely food, surroundings and cocktails). It is also just around the corner from Kenilworth Castle, making it ideal for sightseeing. The hotel offers free parking to its guests, so you can explore further afield if you like: Stratford-upon-Avon is a lovely town that is only 14 miles away, and it's feasible to get to Leamington Spa, Warwick and Coventry too.

Overall:
We had a lovely stay, and have reccommended friends to stay here too! Don't be put off by negative reviews, we had no such problems at all! The staff were lovely, the food was excellent quality, and we had a thouroughly relaxing stay.

“Good location, nice breakfast and nice people”

OK, look, the location is right in the centre of Kenilworth and is great, the main part of the house is a really nice victorian building. Most of the bedrooms are in an extension on the side.
The people are really friendly, and the breakfast is good, freshly cooked for you.
I booked a single room and whilst it was clean it was very small, too small to have a table and chair to work from which is not good for me.
I did see the steep stairs people mention in the reviews for the rooms higher up in the house, I have to say I think they are being a bit fussy, it's fine (unless you are a 50 stone tourist from Idaho!)
Would I recommend it?, tough one. Nothing wrong at all but it's not for me, I need more room I'm afraid.

“Pleasent Stay at the Castle Laurels”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2009

Stayed at the Castle Laurels guest house for one night with my partner for Valentines. The guest house is ideally located right opposite Kenilworth castle and just a short walk from the town.

The guest house house itself was very traditional and quaint. We were greeted with a friendly welcome from the lady at reception upon arrival. The room itself was a decent size with plenty of wardrobe space and a comfy bed however my other half missed not having a dressing table/desk to use however this was only a minor gripe as there was a fold up table and mirror behind the bed. The selection of fruit provided was a nice touch and the movable LCD TV was handy.

Breakfast was served from 08:00 till 09:30 in the morning at weekends. The guy cooking and serving the breakfast couldn't do enough for us! The breakfast itself was really good and put us in good stead for the rest of the day. There was also a good selection of soft drinks and cereals available for you to help yourself.

We paid a total of £60 inc breakfast for one night and would recommend this guest house to anyone visiting Kenilworth especially if your looking to be based close to the castle.

“Just okay.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2009

Very average. I felt that £85 for a double room at this B&B was way overpriced. Good points: fantastic location near the castle, shops & restaurants, free on-site parking, okay breakfast, nice TVs in rooms, use of a computer in the lounge. Not so good points: if you're on the top floor you have to climb very scary, steep stairs, the b&b has a general feeling of neglect - the bathrooms are dismal, the grout is yellow, the whole place feels dusty, musty, and could do with a good airing out. Our bathroom, while not pleasant to be in, at least was quite large. We saw one other bathroom on the 1st floor that was so tiny it was difficult to turn around in it! When I go back to Kenilworth I will definitely try somewhere else.
