“weekend family stop over”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We have just had one of our best ever hotel weekends, on getting to the hotel we were greeted by very pleasent happy reception staff.
we were well over an hour early but allowed our room, the room itself was spot on ,spacious well decorated and furnished, we all the amenties we could ask for .
there was myself,my wife, and 10 year old daughter, there were 2 double beds ,chairs a table
and a desk. more than enough. everything was spotlessly clean
we used the pool and steam room.which was well laid out.
in the evening we used the river room resturant the food was first class and the service second to none. everyone was very friendly and stopped for a chat.
the breakfast buffet was perfect and set us up for the day and was served till 11.am so we
could have a lie in on the sunday morning.
and all this for the price of a family meal out.
couldlnt fault anything we will be definetley be back.
well done

Room Tip: family room /more than enough room for the kids to play/sleep/eat in

“Annual Conference”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

If you are looking for a venue for an Business Conference including a Black tie dinner then look no further. This is the 6th year we have held such an event and the Chesford Grange was by far the best so far. The service provided was second to none with every request (some of them very last minute!) being dealt with speedily and efficiently, and with a smile. The combination of all three can be something of a rarity nowadays, but not at the Chesford Grange.

“Very happy with my stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I was very happy with this hotel. The room was large and very comfortable and clean with everything that was needed. My room was on the first floor which is actually down a flight on ground level - very handy for the spa/pool which was just round the corner. The only things which would have improved the room would be having a power point by the bed for phone charging overnight and better lighting (lots of different lights many of which needed turning on separately or maybe I was just too tired to figure out how to get them all on/off at the same time!) When they were all on it was fairly bright but I'd have liked the 'even brighter' option.

The bathroom was excellent - enough hooks and places to put things, a great heated towel rail right by the bath which not only warmed the towels but made the bathroom warmer, pleasantly smelling soap stuff and a pull out magnifying mirror by the main mirror over the sink with 2 different magnifications. Every hotel should have one. If I had to pick any fault with the bathroom it was the rather noisy extractor that comes on as soon as you turn the light off and stays on for at least 5 minutes after you turn it off. Also no free plastic shower caps which I always like. Minor points though.

My colleague had a room on the 3rd floor and was also very happy with it, and with the hotel generally, and both of us would happily stay again.

Unlike some previous reviewers we were not kept waiting at reception and the reception staff were extremely nice and helpful. I had forgotten something I needed for my laptop and they loaned me one each evening which I returned in the morning. My room had 2 waste bins (one in the bathroom & one in the bedroom) My water was very hot.

Breakfast was excellent - we had ours right at the beginning of the session but I can't see why anything would be different later. They had lovely fresh bread (still hot on the first day) though the slices were a bit narrow and a larger bread knife would have been useful. The eggs were great - I had fried and they were delicious both days. The croissants were yummy too. Staff again very helpful.

I used the pool on the second night - guy in charge very helpful in lending me £1 for the locker which I'd not thought to bring. It's not very big and would probably be less pleasant with lots of people in it at the same time but I was lucky. My only complaint about the pool is I'd have liked it open later (closes at 9 at the weekends and 10 on weekdays). After a long day at the NEC a late night swim would have been lovely but I had to miss out on the Sunday as it was closed when I got there. They also have a large selection of spa treatments which seemed reasonably priced but I didn't have time to try one alas. The changing room was a bit cold so maybe some heating in there, especially in winter. A shame no jacuzzi as that's my favourite pool activity!

There's free wi-fi in the room, very useful, & a large TV which I was too tired to turn on & check out! A nice lounge/bar area, with various different sections and some nooks and crannies which all looked very welcoming, if perhaps slightly dated. That's not a complaint though, just an observation - it didn't bother me - I rather liked it. Room decor was also a bit dark & not to my taste but again, so what, it didn't spoil anything for me. It didn't feel like a 'chain' hotel at all.

Overall a very pleasant experience and I'd happily recommend this hotel and happily stay here again for business or just for a break if I was in the area.

Room Tip: Rooms on 1st floor are ground level (you have to go down a flight of stairs or use lift) but are rig...

“Could be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Kept waiting at reception to check and check out. Room was clean and tidy but would have benefitted from a waste bin. Room service was quick and efficient but food below average, lukewarm and poor quality. Breakfast was very poor, overdone bacon swimming in fat, scrambled eggs swimming in liquid and devoid of any taste, Mushrooms and tea were good though. For a 4 star hotel this place fails to deliver.

We stayed as part of a 250 people dinner dance, when we arrived the reception was very busy, the reception staff delt with us efficient and in a friendly manner friendly. Our meal was appetizing and hot. Our room was in the main building had been recently decorated, the hot water was not that hot.
Consideriing it was snowing hard all hotel reception areas warm and well heated, the staff where pleasant and helpful.
The hotel is easy to reach and is just off the main A46 with plenty of attractions within easy reach
