I was very happy with this hotel. The room was large and very comfortable and clean with everything that was needed. My room was on the first floor which is actually down a flight on ground level - very handy for the spa/pool which was just round the corner. The only things which would have improved the room would be having a power point by the bed for phone charging overnight and better lighting (lots of different lights many of which needed turning on separately or maybe I was just too tired to figure out how to get them all on/off at the same time!) When they were all on it was fairly bright but I'd have liked the 'even brighter' option.
The bathroom was excellent - enough hooks and places to put things, a great heated towel rail right by the bath which not only warmed the towels but made the bathroom warmer, pleasantly smelling soap stuff and a pull out magnifying mirror by the main mirror over the sink with 2 different magnifications. Every hotel should have one. If I had to pick any fault with the bathroom it was the rather noisy extractor that comes on as soon as you turn the light off and stays on for at least 5 minutes after you turn it off. Also no free plastic shower caps which I always like. Minor points though.
My colleague had a room on the 3rd floor and was also very happy with it, and with the hotel generally, and both of us would happily stay again.
Unlike some previous reviewers we were not kept waiting at reception and the reception staff were extremely nice and helpful. I had forgotten something I needed for my laptop and they loaned me one each evening which I returned in the morning. My room had 2 waste bins (one in the bathroom & one in the bedroom) My water was very hot.
Breakfast was excellent - we had ours right at the beginning of the session but I can't see why anything would be different later. They had lovely fresh bread (still hot on the first day) though the slices were a bit narrow and a larger bread knife would have been useful. The eggs were great - I had fried and they were delicious both days. The croissants were yummy too. Staff again very helpful.
I used the pool on the second night - guy in charge very helpful in lending me £1 for the locker which I'd not thought to bring. It's not very big and would probably be less pleasant with lots of people in it at the same time but I was lucky. My only complaint about the pool is I'd have liked it open later (closes at 9 at the weekends and 10 on weekdays). After a long day at the NEC a late night swim would have been lovely but I had to miss out on the Sunday as it was closed when I got there. They also have a large selection of spa treatments which seemed reasonably priced but I didn't have time to try one alas. The changing room was a bit cold so maybe some heating in there, especially in winter. A shame no jacuzzi as that's my favourite pool activity!
There's free wi-fi in the room, very useful, & a large TV which I was too tired to turn on & check out! A nice lounge/bar area, with various different sections and some nooks and crannies which all looked very welcoming, if perhaps slightly dated. That's not a complaint though, just an observation - it didn't bother me - I rather liked it. Room decor was also a bit dark & not to my taste but again, so what, it didn't spoil anything for me. It didn't feel like a 'chain' hotel at all.
Overall a very pleasant experience and I'd happily recommend this hotel and happily stay here again for business or just for a break if I was in the area.
