“Basic, but great value for money!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

I was dreading visiting this hotel after all of the bad reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised! Yes the hotel was basic but it was everything we needed and for the price I wasn't expecting the Ritz. The sheets were clean and the mattresses were comfortable, it was a bit strange having a toilet and shower at the end of a corridor but they too were very clean. One of the previous reviews complained about the locks on the door but in actual fact if you turned the key twice they locked perfectly. The staff were lovely, friendly and extremely helpful in regards to dealing with loud customers and advising on taxis/clubs. All in all it was a very enjoyable weekend and I would definately go back there again!

Room Tip: Turn the lock twice, leave your key at reception if you go out and don't have such high expectat...

“Very basic but OK”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2011

Noticeably more basic than a Travelodge (it seems to have been a Formule 1 in an earlier incarnation) with shared 'self-cleaning' toilets - watch out for wet floors.
My room door showed signs of repair after being kicked in. Numerous warning posters about drugs and unruly behaviour.
However, I stayed on a Thursday night and it was quiet. I got a very good night's sleep. The staff are very friendly although they blinked when this senior citizen walked in ('Are you sure you've got the right hotel, sir? Not the Novotel next door?') Rooms at the back are quieter for traffic noise - bring your own soap, and don't be afraid to complain if something doesn't work - in my case the TV (they changed my room).
The sheets were clean and the bed comfortable. Bus X47 stops nearby for the city centre or it's a ten minute walk to Kingston Park Metro Station.

“son's stag wkend”

Must admit been to a lot worse but for that price you can't beat it the staff who are excellant give you good ideas where to go.
There is a toby carvery next door which give you an excellant meal all day at very reasonable price at £6.
Your only 5min walk away from the metro train station right beside express tesco to buy your carryouts or food whatever tickle's your fancy.
The beds arent slumberland but hey when you want a bed to sleep in a beds a bed better than an allyway or a bush or even worse police station cell LOL.
We enjoyed our stay and if we do come back to Newcastle for another stag do will definately book metro inns it might not be everybodys cup of tea but it was ideal for our party of 5.

Room Tip: Ideal place for a party wkend

Dear Reviewer
Thank you for your recent review.

In response to your specific points, yes we do have cleaners and our cleaners deep clean all toilets and shower cubicles on a daily basis as well as them being self cleaning. Unfortunately, if a small minority of guests choose not to use a toilet or shower correctly then despite my staff's efforts there is little i can do.

With reference to you not being able to get some sleep, unfortunately, this is a fault of your own group. Metro Inns will not tolerate violence towards staff or guests and we will always ask a person(s) to leave the hotel. On these occasions you will lose your security deposit and we will always ask Police to attend the hotel to assist in your group's removal.

In response to your own quote, it is groups such as yours who behave in a manner in which violence was used toward another guest(s) that we at Metro Inns do not welcome and will not welcome in future.

Yours sincerely

“Specifically for hens and stags looking for a cheap place to sleep.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2011

Firstly, the staff were very friendly and helpful throughout. They should be given particular praise for this given that the hotel was crawling with hen parties and teenage lads with attitude.
The staff aside however, this hotel is one to avoid if you do not fit one of the descriptions above. To make my point, the room we were initially allocated was freezing cold due to a window that had been left open in an attempt to remove an overpowering stench of vomit. Thankfully, we were able to move to a room left empty by two of our party who had decided to cut their losses and seek board elsewhere having only got as far as seeing the other guests stood in the foyer.
You will not sleep well unless equipped with earplugs as there is a constant stream of revellers returning from the city that starts at about 3am. Although the hotel does not tolerate parties or excessive noise from individuals, continual post nightclub drunken chatter, footsteps and door slamming is enough to prevent a good night's kip without any individual having been "excessive".
The toilets and showers are cubicles dotted along the corridor and are "self-cleaning" However, they were  anything but clean by the time I had a shower at 7.30pm. It also means that the toilet seat and toilet floor will be wet when you step in. This is of no real consequence but is a little off-putting if you're not expecting it. You'll also need to dry the seat yourself.
Though the rooms will set you back little more than twenty quid and can fit three (depending on how open-minded you are), I have not scored this hotel highly on value as you will need to spend £12-15 on a taxi to get into town and you could possibly get a better night's sleep for less money kippng in your car.
In short, this hotel provides bunk-beds in basic rooms  at rock bottom prices, with communal toiletting facilities which are not manually cleaned as a matter of due course, and does not have a policy restricting large hen and stag groups from using the hotel. This means that  it will always attract a sufficient number of guests who have no regard for the establishment or other guests, that many other guests will be left unsatisfied. Unfortunately for the hotel, these latter guests are probably more likely to leave feedback on sites such as this. Hence the balance towards negative remarks. However, this place clearly serves a purpose - just not one that I will be calling on again.

Dear Reviewer
Firstly can i thank you for taking the time to write a balanced review, whilst some of your points are negative i appreciate the fact that you have tried to give your opinion in a balanced manner. I would like to thank you for your comments regarding the staff, my staff work very hard to ensure that everyone who stays here has a safe and enjoyable time. They do indeed deserve praise for the way they work particularly at weekends and i hope that this continues.

The hotel does cater for all groups and it is fair to say that we are tolerant in respect of hen and stags which make up to 70% of our weekend trade. You rightly point out that we do not tolerate parties or excessive noise and we will always remove person(s) for any breach of this.

Can i apologise that the room you were initially allocated was not up to standard and was cold and for that please accept my apologies. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of my staff we do try and keep the toilets which also self clean to be kept clean manually but as you can appreciate this can be difficult. If only some of our guests used the toilet like they do at home then we wouldn't have this problem but unfortunately we can only do our best.

In reference to mini cab costs a taxi using our dedicated taxi company only charge a flat fee of nine pounds to the city centre. Unfortunately it is the black city cabs from town to the hotel that are continually trying to rip people off for what should only be a ten pound journey.

I am sorry that your experience was not a good one but if you ever choose to come back to Newcastle particularly midweek i would hope that you will allow me and my staff to look after you. Once again thank you for your comments.

Yours sincerely
