“I don't really want to tell you about this hidden gem, but I'm nice, so I will!”
I booked a room at Hedley Hall the night before I stayed when I found myself needing to attend a large conference in Newcastle. As I was booking so late, nearly of the reasonably priced hotel rooms in Newcastle, even at more budget chains were either fully booked or charging extortionate fees.
I rang up and Brenda was very friendly and efficient on the phone, and I was really surprised at the very reasonable room rate of £65 including breakfast. I arrived quite late (as I was driving up after work) but the house was not too far from the A1 (although the road was quite dark and windy). Once there the area was so peaceful and quiet, you'd never think that Newcastle was only a few miles away!
I was greeted by a colleague of Brenda's, Faye, who was very welcoming and showed me around.
The bedroom itself was absolutely beautiful. Tastefully and sympathetically decorated, with a massive king size bed and sofa, large wardrobe, dressing table and shower room. It was also spotless. There was a well stocked drinks tray and even fresh fruit in the room. Instead of those plasticky milk cups Faye offered me fresh milk in a little jug.
After the best night's sleep I've had in ages in the very comfy bed, I came downstairs to breakfast where I was greeted by Brenda. She produced a delicious breakfast that was excellent in quality, especially the locally-made jam.
In all, a great stay which totally set me up for a long day of business, However I wish I'd discovered it for leisure instead, because it is a lovely little getaway and I'm hopeful of coming back again soon!
