“An Average Hotel at an Average price.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

The location of this hotel is very good if you are visiting Newcastle, the staff are helpful and polite and there are good restraunt's/pub's nearby. If you go down Mill Lane you come across The Cock Crow Inn,which does a good pint&curry deal on Wed evenings. There is also a Pizza Hut and Cinema nearby.
The hotel is pretty average with basic facilities, but I don't expect anything else from Travelodge. A good hotel for a stop over as you don't have to venture far from the motorway.
I found the rooms to be warm and the beds to be good enough for a good night sleep and the shower gave very good presure.

Room Tip: If you like good pillows take your own as you only get a flat'ish one. Ask to be down stairs,I...

“Disgusting”

We've stayed at many travelodge typ hotels and this was by far the worst. We expected basics but this was more like a hovel than a hotel. Filthy, old, stained and smelly room. Had booked for 2 nights but only stayed 1 and that was only because we had no where else to go. I can't even put in to words how awful it was. The window had been left open (perhaps to try and hide the smell) but with no heating on it was freezing. There was 'hair' and dirt in the bath, a broken kettle, filthy walls and stained carpets. The curtains were hanging off, the light switches were black with grime. It was horrible and I felt like an awful mum making my kids stay there. We even went out and bought air fresheners just to try and hide the musty, sick smell! Something has to be done about this decrepit hotel!

Room Tip: None! Don't stay here

This was the worst travelodge i've stayed in. when walking into the room, the stench from burgers from the on site burger king was so strong. The room looked nasty like it could do with a right good clean and even re decorated. The bed was uncomfortable also. we only paid £29 for the one night but i would gladly have paid extra to stay at a better hotel.

“A £10 a night bargain”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

Looking for somewhere to stay in connection with a christmas shopping trip, we hit upon the Travelodge at Whitemare Pool, just outside Gateshead. It was on the £10 a night deal.

Comon areas were a bit tatty (as usual) but the room was clean, warm and comfortable. The staff were helpful.

The two local pubs both stop serving food at 6pm (I know, crap) but there is a Little Chef attached to the Travelodge. The staff in there were brilliant and the food was hot and well cooked.

Room Tip: Ask for one on the back. A main road (and the car park) passes the front and it may be noisy

“Terrible stay in filthy rooms”

I stayed in this hotel whilst visiting Newcastle to see a band in the nearby Metro Arena. Myself and 2 friends were sharing a room which meant it was cheap, but the state of the room was vile. We first noticed a pair of (very) dirty pants that had been left in the bin in the toilet, along with a load of hair stuck to the side of the bath, showing that the room had only had a basic clean, if that. The sofabed had chewing gum stuck to it in at least 6 places, and this would be visible by anybody cleaning the room, as well as people staying in it. The roll out bed matress was in a flimsy wooden frame that had a wheel missing making the whole thing rock. Each matress had stains on them. The vending machines next to reception were well stocked, however, one was vending Ibuprofen tablets with obviously no age restriction in place. The only saving grace was a member of staff that had recently moved from Farnborough who was very friendly when we checked in, and very helpful when we were asking him about travel times to the arena etc.

Would not stay in this hotel again, even if i was paid to.
