“Almost OK but not quite”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

Stayed here on business in early December 2011, chose the location as it was close to my meeting.

Where to start.............?

This is a small hotel and, to be honest, is getting a bit run down. Reception was good and the lady very friendly and helpful. Room was £49 for just myself in a double room which, at first glance is reasonable value but I have stayed in many better places for this price and there is a lot of competition in this area with Whitley Bay just up the road.

The room was a reasonable size with a bathroom and a double bed but the carpet was a bit "sticky" and seemed old. The bed was spotlessly clean however and smelt fresh with good pillows and a nice quilt. The decor was tired and the biggest problem was the paper thin walls, the lads next door weren't particularly noisy but were watching TV after having had a few beers (not drunk, just happy) and I could hear every word and laugh until about 11:30. Having been on the road since 5am, not good.
The bathroom was grubby with mould on the sealant and, again, old tired decor but the shower was fine with plenty of hot water.

Breakfast was just continental so I didn't bother and I did not have dinner either so can't comment on the food.

Overall, below average and not prticularly good value for money, I would expect to pay around £35/night for a place like this and I cannot recomment it and will not return, planty of other choices in the area which will offer better for the money.

“Ideal for short breaks,great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

Having read the reviews i was a little concerned with what awaited us at hadrian lodge. It was one of the cheapest on suite rooms in the area.We travelled from Leeds and found the hotel with ease being so close to the tyne tunnel.Parked the car in the large free car park and made our way in.From arrival to departure we found the staff really helpful and were on first name terms. The room was clean and warm with a bath and a shower, clean good quality towels.and the usual tea coffee and biscuits.Bed was comfy and slept well.breakfast was ok with branded cerials. The english breakfast looked good.although the hotel is out of the way dont let this put you off.The metro station is 200 yards away with access to any destination you may need to go to.Hotel is ideal if you want a quiet base but would not reccomend if you want to be next to pubs and clubs but we found it perfect

“You want a nice stay at a great price... recommended! :0)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

We booked Hadrian's Lodge as a group of friends and then checked reviews on trip advisor. After reading we were quite concerned about the accommodation we were staying in. For myself and on behalf of the rest of the group we had a good stay. May not have the best decor but Clean, Warm Rooms, Hot powerful showers. Friendly helpful staff. Bruce the night porter is quite a character! Although we found the breakfast expensive the evening food was very nice and well priced. 10mins from the toon! by taxi between £10-£15, about 15min on the metro which is adjacent to Hadrian's Lodge.

“Pleasant stay and would probably stay again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011 via mobile

The staff on Friday when we arrive was very nice and helpful , couldnt do enough, the chef too .. The woman on Saturday evenin on the other hand was very sour faced, and felt she took a instant dislike to my friend ... And everything was an effort for her... But the night porter was ace!! Think the menu and breakfast was a little expensive .. But a good stay on the whole

“You get what you pay for”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

You get what you pay for, I wouldn’t be going there on romantic weekend there but it was fine for one night stay while working in the area. The room looked tired as did the rest of the hotel but the staff where helpful and happy. It’s situated across from a Metro stop so handy for travelling into Newcastle but that also meant noise also next door to the fire station but didn’t hear anything form them.
