“Bland hotel, not quite what's on the tin”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

This hotel is OK but seriously lacking in charisma - the rooms are bland and a bit 'prison cell like'. It's location (within a shopping precinct) is not at all clear from the website so it's difficult to find the entrance and it feels like a community centre as you arrive. as a result i feel it's priced a bit high for what you get. Despite a comfortable nights sleep I won't be staying again - for the price i'm sure i could find much better accomodation.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms away from the restuarant / bar which is noisy well into the night.

Dear Robotcowbell
Thank you for taking the time to post a review - and i just wanted to check that you definately stayed at our hotel - as we are definatively not in a 'shopping precinct'. We are in a Village which
has several village shops , a newsagents, butchers etc - its hardly Bluewater . We also in no way shape or form resemble a 'community centre ' - as I'm sure our exterior photographs will illustrate.
Im sorry you experienced problems finding us - we do have a very easy to follow locational guide with directions downloadable from our website - which most guests seem to be able to follow without any problems.
We have a choice of bedrooms, including Standard and Delux and Junior Suites , all of which have been completely refurbished during the past 12 months . Photogpahs of each room type are very clearly shown on both our own website, and all booking sites . I have never actually been in a prison cell, so I'm not sure on what criteria you are basing your comparison .
As our restaurant is on the ground floor - it is nowhere near the bedrooms , so I assume you mean the bar , which probably was busy in Deember due to Christmas parties

“Working away from home, a lovely change from chains”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Very friendly staff, night porter particularly friendly to all...
The reception staff are extremely professional and remember your name, big plus..

Rooms are clean, bit chilly, and well decorated. The showers seem to take a few minutes to get up to temperature but worth it when they do...
Hotel is a bit spread out but once you get your bearings its good..

Only not so good thing I've found is the restaurant, Pacos, I didn't find too pleasant when I wandered in looking for somewhere to eat the waitress/manageress, was rather officious and directed me to the bar without really giving me a chance..A little too assuming and lost a big order as I was actually meeting some friends so not the greatest, however we did go to the bar and had a tasty reasonably priced meal, so perhaps she did me a favour...
I would and will return, for a reasonably priced hotel it is very good...

Room Tip: Get an odd numbered room so you don't overlook the main road

“Paco's Restuarant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

My wife & I visited Paco's on Monday Septermber 19 having been there a few times we knew what to expect.Great food ,wine & service.
My wife had prawns wrapped in parma ham for starters & I had ham terrine, both well recommended as is the crusty bread they serve.
For my main course I had steak rossini, superb! My wife had shoulder of lamb cooked to perfection. Our wine was red Rioja, just right.
To finish my wife had icecream and I had the cheeseboard with a Taylor's 2004.A great meal in an establishment that is sorely under-rated.We look forward to our next viist.

“clean and tidy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

this is a well presented, clean and tidy hotel. staff were friendly and responded quickly to queries. however from the website we did not get the impression that it is part of the whickham shopping centre that it mentions being close to - and the views are across the valley across the metro centre. well positioned for visits to durham, newcastle and gateshead but i feel overpriced. breakfast has only two options - full english for ~£10 or continental for ~£8... i did resent having to pay £8 for coffee and a slice of toast! would recommend having room only and popping to greggs which is within easy walking distance
