“Very handy if you're visiting Newcastle by car”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Just a short distance up from the Tyne Tunnel and surprisingly non-Travelodge in various ways - Menzies/Holiday Inn-type hotel in an earlier incarnation? Large lounge and restaurant, big rooms and baths but usual minimal 'comforts' so bring your own shampoo etc. The small panel radiator in my room struggled to keep the chilly north-east temperatures outside at bay - not really adequate for a room that size.
Friendly staff and fixed price breakfast adequate rather than sumptuous. If you're used to Travelodges you'll be fine, although definitely a little mean of them to screw shut all the cupboard drawers...
5 minutes walk over the road to Frankie and Bennys and Pizza Hut if you want a more adventurous cuisine. It's on the excellent 306 bus route from Tynemouth so easy to get into town if you don't want to park in the centre.
Good night's sleep with no particular problems.

“Functional - just”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012 via mobile

The only selling points of this hotel are location and price. It's the sort of place you spend as little time as possible in the room as there is really nothing nice about it.

Some of the rooms are very large... But the TVs are tiny portables making it hard to watch from the bed.

There are some drawers in the room but Travelodge have bizarrely nailed them shut.

And that's about it. Never tried the food but can't imagine it's any good. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants around anyway so no need to.

As long as you've set your expectations extremely low and are only staying here because it's cheap you won't be disappointed!

“Very Basic”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Conveniant location but very tired with heater hanging off wall. On our second day room wasnt serviced when we complained got given a couple of towels. Company sent us an e voucher but when we tried to use website and call centre would not accept so had to pay again. They do not give you a tel number for customer services so you have to rely on automated questionnaire which takes for ever to complete. staff at hotel not really that interested in sorting out problems.

Room Tip: there are plenty too choose from so if not happy ask for change

“Our worst ever hotel experience”

We recently booked to stay at the Travelodge at Newcastle Silverlink. On arrival, we checked into our room which was bitterly cold. There were 2 large radiators in the room, neither of which were working any longer and had been replaced by one small electric wall heater. We asked to me moved to another room which they duly did, although this was only marginally warmer.

We were horrified to find dirty walls with mildew and damp on the wall near the window, a broken electrical socket which small fingers could easily poke into. There were missing light bulbs over the vanity unit and above the main door. The tap could only manage a trickle of luke warm water, and the loo roll was broken. The sealant around the bath and shower was black with mildew and really off putting.

We noticed that in the main reception area a couple of mobile heaters that were not managing to heat the public space to sit and have a drink, and that the disabled lift was taped off and broken.

We showed photo's of these unacceptable issues to the duty manager who was impolite and discourteous in his manner - and suggested we email travelodge.com.

We will NEVER stay at this hotel again. Although a budget chain, we would expect a clean warm and above SAFE environment for our stay - beware!

“FREEZING”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Just stayed at this Travelodge for four nights, although the staff were very pleasant and helpful, these problems were beyond their responsibilities. 1st the disabled lift was out of order, although there was a sign stating this and that staff were on hand to assist. On entering our room and attempting to unpack, all the drawers had been 'screwed' shut! When questioning the staff we were informed that this had been done to reduce housekeeping costs and were told to 'live out of our suitcases!', The water pressure is almost non-existent in the bathroom and you have to dodge around trying to get a shower. But by far the worst problem was that the heating had broken down, although they had two halogen heaters in the bar/restaurant area, these weren't enough to keep it even lukewarm, it would have been beneficial for guests to have been informed of this even if it was just a notice on reception stating that there was a problem with the heating and that the engineers had been called! All-in-all a pretty poor experience unfortunately.

Room Tip: ask for a larger room on booking, they are a tad on the skimpy side
