“If you are thinking of staying here, then don't”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2010

I arrived at the Travel Lodge at nearly midnight. There staff on front desk advised me they had no rooms despite me having a confimed rservation. It is their policy to overbook as usually peple are no-shows. Not a great start after a 3 hour journey down from the Midlands but at least they were helpfull in ringing round local hotels to find me a bed for the night. After about half an hourof getting the sorry we are full message they were delighted to tell me they had found somewhere. The "Quinns Hotel". I had no knowedge of this hotel but should have been concerned as everywhere else was full while this place had loads of rooms. I followed the directions into town and then out on the Epsom road and was pleased to see ample parking. I pulled in and though it is not the newest looking place but can't be that bad. The door was open so i wandered in thinking I had arrived in a cuury house. It reeked of curry and i think was being used as a base for a takeaway business. I found a reception desk and paid in advance (approx £50) for one night including breakfast. I was hsown up some creaking old stairs to my room. I switched on the light and it made not much difference to the lighting levels (proabably for the best) The room was not very clean, the beds were lumpy and felt damp, the furniture was old and patched up and the bathroom suite was multi coloured. I tried the telly more in hope than expectation to only find four channels and on the 14 inch screen was unwatchable. It had been a long day so tried to get some sleep on the uncomfortable bed which did not really happen. I woke early and went down to reception to tell them i was leaving. They seemed upset that i was leaving before breakfast but i really could not take anymore. I think i would of been better off getting arrested and spending the night in the cells.
However desperate you are for a hotel in Guildford, you are not this desperate. Go somewhere else!

“The inside of my wheelie bin is cleaner”

I should have known this hotel was bad when I was the only car in the car park. However upon arriving I was greeted at reception and taken to my room whereby the person from the hotel, opened the door and proceeded to spray air freshner immediately we entered the room. Other points of note - the bathroom was disgusting, the light fitting was hanging from the ceiling, there were cobwebs all over the bedroom and bathroom with spiders and the bed was a disgrace - musty and the sheets had holes in them! However to cap it off, the next morning (yes I had nowhere else to stay..) I went down to reception to check out and had to step over a person sleeping fully clothed in the corridor next to the reception....apparently the police had dropped off a homeless person at midnight and asked if the Quinns had a spare room! It would appear that even the homeless find the Quinns rooms too dirty to sleep in!

“Awful & no breakfast”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2007

The Quinns hotel is a disgrace and I would not recomend it. Upon arrival there was no sign of anyone in reception. Once we did get checked in the rooms were awful. I could list a string of faults but the main ones were flimsy yale lock, dirty sheets, plastic bag over the light fitting in the bathroom, smoke alarm with battery taken out. In the morning we arrived for breakfast at 8:30 (served from 8am-9:30am according to the room) and there wasn't a sole around. We ended up going into the kitchen ourselves to get milk. I can't believe this place charges £55 per night!

“Bad Bed and NO Breakfast!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2007

This hotel is the worst I have ever stayed in.

It's dark, and smells damp and musty.

The rooms have lumpy beds and concrete pillows and are secured by a feeble yale lock. My laptop was swiftly returned to the car and locked in the boot, while I put a chair against the door of my room.

There is very poor security. When I tried checking in, the front two doors were open (leading me directly into the stairway and the bedrooms, but not the reception/kitchen).

I asked for a room at the back, but was initially escorted to one at the front (I had to make myself clear to the point of being rude).

I was told breakfast was served at 7.30 (it also says this in the rooms). I went down at 7.30 to find the reception locked and no one around to serve breakfast. I rang the bell until someone came and told me 8.00. A pointless discussion later and it was off to the canteen at work for breakfast.

My room was not cleaned for the 2 nights I was there. The toilet was dirty when I arrived. The musty smell permeated through everything.

On the plus point, it was very quiet. If the bed had not been 50 years old, I might have had a good nights sleep.

It was £54.50 per night. An absolute rip off. Avoid at all costs - theres a couple of farmhouse b&bs locally that are much better value for money!

  • Liked — It was 5 mins walk to work
  • Disliked — The lack of security, the trickle of the shower and no breakfast even though I was charged for it.
