“good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 April 2011

It's more a B&B rather than a hotel. However, my stay was fully satisfactory. Room (single with well functioning bathroom) was ok, clean, silent, fast WLAN connection (free). Breakfast not a blast, but appropriate. Very friendly staff.

The hotel is located in a quiet residential neighbourhood, about 15 min walk to the start of the shopping streat, however, assume about 20min walk to the restaurants. Longer walk back, because you'll go uphill. There is also a bus, but I did not try. Have to take into account that they don't serve dinner, so maybe you might need a taxi to go back after the dinner in town.

Overall, good value for money, recommended hotel.

“Quiet, clean and comfortable guest house”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 March 2011

It is perhaps easy to be a little put off by some of the recent reviews. This is a quiet and clean guest house within walking distance (10-15 minutes) of town centre. Our room was a little old fashioned with a small en-suite but it was not a problem for us. If you are expecting a flat screen TV and a large bathroom with a power shower, you will be disappointed . There was a friendly greeting and helpful attitude from the proprietors and staff. The continental breakfast was nice and quite adequate - we weren't expecting a full English breakfast. Overall, we thought that what was provided for the price was absolutely fine and we would be happy to stay here again.

“Very Average Guesthouse”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2010

This is a guesthouse or even a large B&B, not a hotel.

It is set in a large old house and because it has not be fully refurbished, everything feels a bit old and jaded. The rooms are large and clean, but lack character and our bathroom was definitely beginning to show its age.

Reception is not always manned and there is no restaurant.

Breakfast was continental only, but the croissants were good and fresh.

There is a large garden with loungers which probably be nice in the summer.

Finally it is expensive for what it is.

“Old fashion rooms, good location and friendly staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2010

We stayed one night at the Blanes Court. Staff was friendly but the reception desk is not always staffed. Guests have a key to go in and out. I guess it is more a guesthouse than a hotel. There is parking in front which is very useful as the hotel is about 10 min walk to the top of high street. There is a big garden at the back with a heated pool for children (I've read in a folder as staff didn't tell us about it). They have free wireless internet and continental breakfast included in the price (which was reasonable). The shower/toilet room was tiny (a larger person would struggle) and the sink was in the room. Very old fashion furniture, tiles etc. I guess everything closer to the town centre will be much more expensive and the Blanes Court is alright if you don't mind staying in a room that resambles your grandmother's (I don't know if all rooms have tiny shower/toilet rooms as they seem to be all different).

“Very Disappointed - Pretentious & Over-priced Guest House, not a Hotel"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2010

Stayed overnight with my son following a local family occasion. Had a spacious, clean, twin room, but this was badly let down by a miniscule toilet/shower facility nigh on impossible to function in. Less en-suite more in-cupboard! In addition the shower water pressure was ridiculously low. The TV was of poor quality with very bad reception and just 5 channels. The sofa was very tired, but the beds were good. Next morning we found the advertised "Full English Breakfast" was NOT a cooked breakfast at all, but an exceedingly limited buffet of french bread, cheese and ham. The lady said this was an advertising fault as I'd booked through the internet. But I later found their own web site and leaflet claiming a buffet style full breakfast. I feel conned.
