“Pleasant place to stay - warm and cosy - at reasonable cost”

I have stayed at this Travelodge several times, and have never been dissatisfied. I always ask for a room on the top floor overlooking the railway, since I enjoy watching the trains on the main London to Portsmouth line. Alternatively, some rooms overlook the River Wey towards Dapdune Wharf and some the A3 Guildford By-Pass. This time, my room was warm and cosy and I slept very well. The room - and bathroom - were also clean (I have never been put in an uncleaned room when I have stayed here.) The mattress was particularly comfortable - I suspect it was a new one. I have always found reception staff friendly and helpful. The only tiny fault I can find from this visit is that the kettle was rather well 'used', and could do with being replaced. I shall certainly stay in the hotel again when I am next in Guildford. It is a reasonable walk (takes me about 30 mins, but most people would do it in 15) from Guildford railway station, and most of the walk can be undertaken along the pretty Wey tow-path, if you so choose. I paid £42.50 by booking a couple of months in advance; the normal "on-the-day" price is around £60.00, I believe.

Room Tip: If you like trains, ask for a room facing the railway. If you don't like noise, ask for a room f...

“Handy location - well used rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

The location of this traveloge makes it ideal for accessing the city centre, university, M25 & A3. There is parking available underneath and to the side of the travelodge which is a bonus. We chose this hotel for its location and it is pet friendly. We had used this Travelodge a couple of years ago but found a real change in the quality. The breakfast is still adequate and the rooms tidy. However the bedroom was a little tired and tatty and no hairdryer! There was black mold in the Bathroom and some carpet staining. We asked to move rooms but were told that there were no others available. I believe that had we not had the dog with us there may have been other rooms available, even though we have a dog crate bed for our cairn. There was alot of noise from people smoking and drinking outside the hotel on Saturday. The other worrying point was that the access to the hotel for the public is very easy and not all the floor corridors were pass card protected which you would need to know if you were visiting with children who are lively as family rooms can be on 4th floor and several families were chasing children during our stay along the corridors. We brought both the mold and security issues to the staffs attention. So check things out when you arrive thoroughly if you have concerns.
On a positive note the Bar snaks were good and well priced!
Best advice: not bad but not great!

It's a Travelodge, pretty basic accommodation, not great, but not bad either. There is a Frankie and Benny's next door for OK food.

“OK but That's All”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Stayed here for a night earlier this week as my daughter had an interview at Surrey University. The room was very clean apart from the sofa bed which was torn, stained and generally tatty. Neither of us wanted to sleep on it! Decor throughout was looking a bit worn and tired andthe mattress on the bed was extremely saggy, my back really hurt the next morning. However, the room only cost £35 and was fine if all you want is somewhere to get your head down and get a few hours sleep.

“Not as bad as people say!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

I have just stayed here with my husband and 2 young children, although I almost didn't after reading the reviews! It certainly isn't as bad as people are saying... Yes it's a bit tatty but if people are staying in it surely it's going to get a bit worn over time..... Yes I agree it's not as nice as a Premier Inn and if you get a Premier Inn hotel for the same price then I'd say go there but unfortunately for us they were charging a £100 whereas this we got for £48 ( could've been cheaper but we booked last minute) and we were happy enough. The staff were helpful when we phoned up to requested a cot and asked for it to be set up ready for us in our room as we were arriving late, the only thing they didn't do was make up the spare bed for our other child so it may be worth asking for this to be done if you are having to use extra beds. We didn't eat in the hotel, we went to Frankie and Bennys for breakfast, which is next door and slightly cheaper although it doesn't open until 9am. The mattress was a bit soft and the room a bit tired but on the whole was an ok place to stay and I would recommend it you need somewhere to stay that's fairly cheap and convenient.
