“Nice but could be so much more”

I stayed here for three nights on business and had looked at the hotel and reviews, so knew roughly what to expect. The hotel itself is set in a lovely location, just on the edge of the rolloing Surrey Hills, in summer it is probably spectacular. The grounds are well kept and with the feature gazebo it would make a nice setting for a wedding or special party. The rooms are clean and tidy, if a little dated, and the bed could be more comfortable but overall on par with many more expensive hotels.
The staff are mainly East European but do have a fair understanding of the lingo! But there are not enough of them, if you enjoy standing at an empty bar this is the place for you!
The food sounded good on the menu and the fish was nice but the rest of it was instantly forgettable, the chicken curry was a few chunks of chicken with a homepride sauce tipped over it, nothing else, no onions, peppers or any other ingredient usually found in curry. I had to ask for a few bits of chilli on to try to improve it (Didn't work). With not many guests in the restaurant you would have thought the food could have had a bit of TLC in the prep. Breakfast on day one was cooked to order, after that it was the usual buffet style of undercooked bacon, undercooked sausages and eggs, beans etc. Again not bad but could and should be so much better. Bar prices are average for the area, but the Speckled Hen and Tetleys on the first night were both rough, possible pipe cleaning issue, though the bar man wouldn't believe it.
Overall an okay place to stay, but it offers much more than it delivers

“Not so sure about a winter stopover, but in summer It would be really nice.”

Arrived after a long drive. Researched for a hotel within driving distance of guildford, which it is. As with all hotels, some more lighting on the driveway And around the hotel would be a good idea, especially when it's throwing it down. Booked through hotels.com and this was not found when checking in. Room was clean, dated but sufficient. Food menu was limited, and people appeared to be ordering burgers etc, as opposed to normal pub/type food. It looked like the tables were not being cleared quickly. Table accompaniments were not refilled, salt etc. chilled beers were good though. Note to management. Get the staff to speak better English please. They appeared to be either bored or tired. Could not get wifi to work and no one would help either. Breakfast, as a traditional English consisted of 2bacon 1 sausage, poached egg, 1 tomato, and warm. Not HOT. £9.95 wow....not good value.
Overall, ideal place, would look excellent in summer, too drab and dreary in winter, could do with a freshen up and better quality of service and food.

“Not enough waiting staff!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Stayed here for one night in Jan 2012. Had an evening meeting, so did not use the spa, although the facilities looked good from what I could see.
The check-in was efficient and the staff friendly. The room was good-sized, clean and warm, and the bed was soft and comfortable.
The evening meal was well-presented and hot (I hate the luke warm meals which many hotels present!) The portions were good-sized and I particularly noticed that the creme brulee had only just been blow torched, as the dish was hot - a good touch. Reasonable price (except for the beer, which was expensive) The food itself was under £25 for 3 courses. Breakfast was well and quickly cooked, with alternatives to the normal "full English", and a better than average cold buffet.
The only niggle was (as other reviewers have found) there was not enough attention to clearing tables. It was not a good introduction to the evening meal to see a table next to the desk at the restaurant entrance piled with half a dozen dirty plates and discarded food. And there is no point in showing someone to an uncleared table, as happened to me.
At breakfast there was an empty but uncleared table for 4 next to mine when I arrived, and it was in the same state when I left - and I did not see any other tables being cleared as people finished.
The problem seems to be not enough waiting staff and, especially at breakfast they seemed harrassed. I got the wrong order, and I heard that others did at well, and several of us had to hunt on other tables for butter, marmalade, etc.
Such a pity to taint an otherwise good experience.

I booked via the internet for a 1 night stay and have to say from the outset everything was dealt with perfectly.
On arriving at the hotel we were met with extremely friendly and might i say very helpful staff who could not do enough to help you.
I would highly reccommend the hotel and if i return to the area i will definately stay again.
thank you very much to all

“Ideal hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

The Manor House Hotel was our venue choice for our wedding in September 2011.
It was the perfect setting-set on the rolling Surrey Hills, but this venue offered much more.
We were taken aback by the friendly and accommodating staff, who showed both our guests and ourselves the best possible service. They were kind and professional and we would not hesitate in recommending the hotel not only for a romantic nights stay, but for an ideal location for any event.
