I stayed here for three nights on business and had looked at the hotel and reviews, so knew roughly what to expect. The hotel itself is set in a lovely location, just on the edge of the rolloing Surrey Hills, in summer it is probably spectacular. The grounds are well kept and with the feature gazebo it would make a nice setting for a wedding or special party. The rooms are clean and tidy, if a little dated, and the bed could be more comfortable but overall on par with many more expensive hotels.
The staff are mainly East European but do have a fair understanding of the lingo! But there are not enough of them, if you enjoy standing at an empty bar this is the place for you!
The food sounded good on the menu and the fish was nice but the rest of it was instantly forgettable, the chicken curry was a few chunks of chicken with a homepride sauce tipped over it, nothing else, no onions, peppers or any other ingredient usually found in curry. I had to ask for a few bits of chilli on to try to improve it (Didn't work). With not many guests in the restaurant you would have thought the food could have had a bit of TLC in the prep. Breakfast on day one was cooked to order, after that it was the usual buffet style of undercooked bacon, undercooked sausages and eggs, beans etc. Again not bad but could and should be so much better. Bar prices are average for the area, but the Speckled Hen and Tetleys on the first night were both rough, possible pipe cleaning issue, though the bar man wouldn't believe it.
Overall an okay place to stay, but it offers much more than it delivers
