I stayed 1 night in the Mandolay after having tested a couple of other hotels in Guildford. Rate was 110 GBP including breakfast.
The hotel is one of the bigger properties in Guildford. Public areas have been refurbished and look up to date and well decorated. The hotel has a rather large bar/lounge area and a decent sized restaurant where breakfast is served. It does not feature any recreation areas though (gym or such). Parking can be tricky as limited space is available (don't know if it's free of charge).
Most of the rooms are not refurbished and vary a lot in size. Overall look'n'feel of the rooms is below average of what you get in Guildford. There is hardly any decoration and the furniture certainly got some wear and tear. Considering 110 GBP is an above average rate for Guildford - rooms certainly are disappointing. Cleanliness is okay. There is free wi-fi in the room, complimentary bottled water and free coffee and tea making facilities.
Weakest point about this hotel are bathrooms. They can hardly be called clean and desperately need an update. The sink is way too low and very small, you only get a tiny little mirror and close to no amenities. They look more like a clinic or hostel bathroom than what you would find in a decent business hotel. Certainly not an atmosphere where you wanna enjoy a bubble bath and relax. There are however more than enough towels available.
Breakfast is okay: it's a buffet with a limited choice of cold and hot options. No cooked breakfast is available.
All in all - I would not necessarily recommend this hotel: there are loads of lovely smaller options available in Guildford for the same price or less. Yet if for any reason you have to stay here: it is an okay experience that does the job.
