“Cosy friendly place”

Well i saw on the web and it looked like a nice little characteristic place. when I got there the log fire was roaring in the bar.The customers appeared friendly and i didnt feel intimidated. Its more like an old coaching inn and i loved looking at the little bits of memorabilia above the fireplace, hundred of army badges that apparently visiting servicemen in the war nailed to the oak beams. I visired over the weekend. The karaoke was a bit noisy but I was persuaded by a local to have a go. I really enjoyed it and stayed up late. The rooms were clean enough and the bed comfy. they have a quiet longue on the first floor that you can watch tv in or reas, this means you dont have to go in the bar if you want to chill out. Nice friendly staff and management. Tried the carvery no frills but good wholesome food. Lovely view from my room of Surrey downs. Yes id reccomedend it

“Dont ever stay at the Dukes Head Hotel, Bere Green, Dorking”

Well i arrived at the hotel to book in, No reception so had to check in in a busy noisy bar area. Couldnt hear a word. Owner was very rude and abrupt! Immediatly asked for cash to pay for room. I was taken to room and by the way all rooms are above the bar area so noise was going to be an issue from the off. Got to room and was so shocked, it was freezing cold and no heating in there. The room was dirty dingy and not at all decorated well. No toilet paper either, tv didnt work properly. Well the noise from the bar downstairs was something i would never want to experiance ever again. It went on till 2:30am, shouting, banging, classes chinging, music, you name it we heard it. To top things off a dog which belonged to the owner was left in the yard outside all night and was barking non stop. We had enough by 4am so decided to leave and just drove home. When i telephoned to complain i was moreless told tough!!! Well you learn by mistakes and hope no body else gets to experiance this shoddy outfit calling themselves a comfy hotel.

“nice country pub and hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2006

i had previously stayed at the Dukes head in 2005 and was not very impressed with management and staff but since under new management has taken over i have been back to stay there and found that they were very friendly and couldnt do enough for you. Specially all the refurbishment work to make the travellers feel more at home with a supurb sports lounge and children facilities I must praise the young lad behind the bar for his helpfullness and courtious manner. The hotel is very clean and food is superpurb i will definately stay there again with my 2 children.
