We had 3 rooms booked as my friend was getting married nearby. I had to wait 10 minutes to check in, there was no queue and it was during the afternoon but nobody was at reception, had to repeatedly press the bell.
My Sister and her fiance checked into her room later that day and upon entering the room they were greeted by an overwhelming stench of cigarette smoke (this has been a no smoking hotel for some years). We had later found out from other guests in the hotel that some guests had been asked to leave the hotel as thery were smoking cigarettes. I'm pretty certain that in a hotel which has a no smoking policy current regualtions state that if there has been smoke in the room then it should be closed to the public for 24 hours, this was clearly not the case.
My parents checked into their room quite late as the wedding we were attending started at 3pm the same time as the hotels check in, they tried to check in at midnight and it took 20 minutes for the night porter to arrive at the reception counter, he only arrived after my dad telephoned the hotel whilst standing in reception. When they arrived in their room it was clear that it had not been cleaned since the previous occupants as the waste bin was full, there were half drunk bottles of water on the side and the bed linen was stained so they had to sleep on towels.
My room on the other hand was reasonably clean on the surface, but it still had it flaws. The beds are shocking, you could see the dip in the centre of the bed whilst it was made. I woke up on the Sunday morning to find that I had a few insect bites on my back which had not been there the night before.
The only positive we could take from this experience was we know never to book there again.
