“Excellent Traditional Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

I went to Carshalton to visit family, my sister being local to the area said the Greyhound Hotel look ok why not stay there when you next visit, Well what a little cracker of a hotel, I stayed in a double room overlooking the car park, I thought it may be a little nosey but to my surprise with the double glassed windows it was fine, the room had all the comforts of home, tea and coffee, sky TV and room service, only one little thing the bar stops at 11pm and I was looking forward to a late bar with some friends. Breakfast was very good I had the full English and my partner had smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, The evening meal was excellent a little expensive for a pub, but we had great service, staff were very helpful and friendly, nothing was to much for them. If you are looking for good clean accommodation, great food and a bar to drink in with family and friends this is the place.

“Worst Place I have Ever Been To!”

We met with some friends at the Greyhound and spent most of the time discussing how this place was still in business. I am certainly not one of these people who likes a good moan but could NOT believe how unfriendly the staff were, how poor the food was, how dirty the place was and generally how the place operated so badly.
I don't know what Greyhound the other reviewers had been staying at who gave positive comments but it CAN'T be this place!
If any one is thinking of opening a hotel maybe they could visit here to see how it's NOT done and just do the exact opposite.
If any of you would like an afternoons' entertainment just pop in for a coffee and cake and you will see that Basil Fawlty isn't on his own and there are still people out there like him.
It is aklso VERY expensive (£3.45 for portion of chips/£10.50 for burger with brown lettuce and wrinkly tomato)
The only positive I can give it I suppose is the location, looking over a pond.

“Good and weak points”

I like this hotel, I really do, and have stayed here more than once. I got an excellent room rate this time, booking two weeks ahead. The rooms are clean, good-sized and the beds are comfortable. Breakfast is seriously good. The staff are friendly and helpful.

However, a little more attention to detail would help. For example: in the bathroom, the sink drain was blocked, and there were no tissues in the tissue box - perhaps too few room-service staff?. The hot water runs MUCH too hot, in fact you risk scalding yourself in the shower if you're not careful. The iron and ironing board provided are cheap and flimsy - yes, people do iron clothes in hotel rooms before going to a smart party!

In the pub, not one of the three real ales was 'on', and despite a large blackboard sign, there was no mulled wine on offer, and this was in the week between Xmas and New Year!

I'll stay here again, as it is very conveniently located for our purposes, and (I'll say it again!) the quality of the breakfast makes up for a lot of the shortcomings. Three stars, could easily be four or five with just a little more work.

“Excellent venue for meetings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

We had our Reps training session at this venue 14th & 15th December. The bedrooms have been refurbished to a high standard. The pub is oldey worldey and has character. The conference room is a little basic but with all tea/coffee amenities to hand in the room it meant we could all get up and make a brew any time we fancied it. The fruit/biscuits and sweets were a welcome touch. It is on a busy road but the beauty is that it is close to the railway station, shops and other restaurants if you chose to eat elsewhere. We had our Christmas dinner there on the evening of 14th and although it was in a small section of the pub it was cosy and the food was excellent with the service second to none. All the staff were helpful and friendly every day and worked really hard to ensure we were comfortable & happy. We did have to wait a few minutes to be served at the reception desk but that is because the pub is so popular and busy. However it was not that much of a problem to create a fuss about. The only complaint I had from everybody was that the food at the lunch buffet was too much and the guys were worried about waste!

We will definitely use the Greyhound Pub/Hotel again and being a family run pub only adds to the excellent service.

Room Tip: The rooms on the far side are refurbished but even the older rooms were of good quality.

“Excellent Hotel”

My parents have been staying at the Greyhound while renovation work being done at their flat. They have been there now for nearly 7 weeks on and off and we can not fault this lovely hotel. All the staff have been courteous and friendly for the whole duration they have stayed with them. My mother has a condition that requires dietary difficulties but the kitchen staff and restaurant staff have be brilliant in accommadating this.
Rooms are spotless with tea, coffee and biscuits being replenished daily.
I have joined them several times for evening meals and the food has been hot and delicious.
Nice atmosphere in the pub with live bands on occassions.
The guest bedrooms are located in a seperate annex to the pub so they were not disturbed at turf out time.
Ample parking. Very close to Carshalton train station and local bus routes/stops. Minutes from shops inc a small but well stocked Sainsburys,Post Office,News Agents and just a short 3 minute walk to Carshalton Grove Park.
The location and setting of this hotel is perfect opposite Carshalton Ponds.
It is on a main road but again traffic noise could not be heard from bedrooms my parents had stayed in.
I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel or reccomend it friends.
Pets are allowed in selected room for a small fee.
