“A very disappointing experience indeed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011

I booked an overnight stay on the 30th October for my wife and I to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, I chose the Hall because we held our after wedding drinks party there 30 years ago..
The web site booking system was efficient and I chose the package which included an evening meal in the restaurant but you had to spend a minimum of £31.50 per person. This description on the web site could be misleading but I will explain further later.
On our arrival I have to say that our room bore little resemblance to that depicted on the web site it was very small, very cream and in desperate need of refurbishment. It was generally lacklustre. Fortunately we had a small balcony which our dog enjoyed, without which, moving around the room would have been chaotic.
The room had no face flannels and despite searching most of the drawers etc I was unable to locate a hair dryer.
Before dinner I decided to sample the Adnams in the bar but although this facility was open I had to search for a member of staff and when finally served she continued to 'play' with her mobile which I consider to be both impolite and unprofessional. The beer was very average.
We sat in the bar with our aperitifs and ordered our food with the bar person still 'playing' with her mobile - very irritating! When we were called to our table the waitress did not carry our unfinished drinks or seat my wife in the usual appropriate manner to which we are accustomed in a 4 star establishment. Additionally I was very surprised to see that our wine had already been opened. This was I assume an attempt to let it breathe, this being the case then it should have been uncorked in front of us in the bar.
The food was very good.
In the morning I noticed that the underside of the toilet seat was filthy which is unforgivable - we had not attempted to use this facility the previous night. As a result of this, although I had pre- booked breakfast we decided to give it a miss and leave.
On check out I was not asked if we enjoyed our stay but I was informed that an additional £5 odd had been added to my bill as we had not spent the requisite £31.50 each on FOOD! Our restaurant and drinks bill was nearly £120. When I questioned this I was told quite emphatically that the £31.50 related to food only not wine etc. The web site does not refer to food it refers to dinner and in my opinion if it only relates to food then this should make this clear. Had I been aware of this top up charge I would not have left my very generous tip in the restaurant.
On my return home I emailed the Manager regarding these issues and his reply addressed some but not others, no mention was made regarding the lack of face cloths or indeed what I consider to be a lack of courtesy by one of the restaurant staff.
However, what convinced me to write this report for the world to read was his answer regarding my failure to find the hair dyer. I was told and I quote ' the hair dryer was in the top RH drawer of the dressing table, where I expected to find it'. I consider this remark to be both rude and quite unnecessary - but I extend my sincere apologies to all at Seckford Hall for not searching comprehensively for the hair dryer!

Needless to say we shall never frequent this establishment again.

Room Tip: Stay at the Crown in Woodbridge town.

“Beautiful hotel”

My sister and I stayed at Seckford for two nights and were blown away by its appearance as we drove in. Our room had a view over the garden and lake out the back. We had dinner in the dining room on the Saturday and were a bit taken aback when we were charged for two full meals when we only had a main course each. On asking we were tolf it was a set price for the Saturday. No mention of that before we dined. The bill was rectified on check out. The Sunday we dined in the bistro, lees formal, slightly cheaper and the food just as good.

“Stay Sunday night.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

We stayed at a special rate last Sunday night when visiting Sutton Hoo and Woodbridge. Excellent value. A great room, super meal and we used the pool and spa.

Room Tip: We had a four poster "superior room for £10 extra. It seemed well worth it. The room was a bit...

“Beautiful building and grounds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

I stayed here for 10 days on business. The building is amazing (built in 1550 I think) and a wonderful aspect as you drive up. The gardens are well kept with a nice sunny garden out the back to have tea in. The staff on reception were pleasant and helpful. The porter is very professional. I had some issues with noise on my first night that were dealt with quickly.
The bedrooms are quaint and romantic but probably have reached the point for an overhaul. A few things I noticed were that the mattresses and pillows were old and lumpy, the chair upholstery was stained and the bathroom was showing signs of age (cracked bath panel, black mildew in the bath silicone) Otherwise the rooms are nicely appointed with bathrobes, toiletries, refreshments. The wifi worked very well in the room. The TV worked but had only terrestial channels.
I didn't eat here so I can't comment on the restaurant (you do need to dress smartly for dinner, no T-shirt, denim or trainers) nor did I use the pool/gym, though the pool looked nice.
NOTE: do not go to Seckford Hall Road on the SatNav as this is not where the hotel is! It is the other side of the A12, so do not come off at the sign for Woodbridge.

Room Tip: Room 1 (large king size) is right over the kitchen and not good for light sleepers. (kitchen noise f...

“Fantastic setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

Working away with my partner, came across this place, wow what a find, just fantastic, from driving up to the hotel, well a manor house of great beauty, checked in with ease and our bags taken to our room, such a nice touch now days, our room looked over the front had a four poster bed, which we never asked for, so a lovely surprise there, bathroom very nice and clean, bathrobes in the wardrobe, fluffy towels, went down for a drink, and took them outside into the lovely gardens, used the swimming pool, steam rooms etc, again very nice, then had a free cream tea outside in another part of the grounds. evening meal was very nice again had a drink outside with canapes while reading the menu, again just stunning views watching the sun go down, had a view of the marques which was set up for a wedding the next day, really nice man who went out of his way to show us where the ceremony was to take place, fantastic place for a wedding! evening meal was yum all the way, service was excellent and we both went to bed with full tums and a smile, great place would recommend it to anyone!

Room Tip: any room overlooking the front, only bad point the four poster was just to old and lumpy
