“Fantastic setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2011

Working away with my partner, came across this place, wow what a find, just fantastic, from driving up to the hotel, well a manor house of great beauty, checked in with ease and our bags taken to our room, such a nice touch now days, our room looked over the front had a four poster bed, which we never asked for, so a lovely surprise there, bathroom very nice and clean, bathrobes in the wardrobe, fluffy towels, went down for a drink, and took them outside into the lovely gardens, used the swimming pool, steam rooms etc, again very nice, then had a free cream tea outside in another part of the grounds. evening meal was very nice again had a drink outside with canapes while reading the menu, again just stunning views watching the sun go down, had a view of the marques which was set up for a wedding the next day, really nice man who went out of his way to show us where the ceremony was to take place, fantastic place for a wedding! evening meal was yum all the way, service was excellent and we both went to bed with full tums and a smile, great place would recommend it to anyone!

Room Tip: any room overlooking the front, only bad point the four poster was just to old and lumpy

“Traditional Old World Charm and Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

Stayed for one night in suite 38. The hotel is very conveniently located next to the A12 and although this is a very busy road you do not hear road traffic at the hotel. The approach to it is stunning, a lovely old tudor manor house with very well kept grounds.

It has an old world charm about it, plenty of oak beams and comfy public rooms. The courtyard garden is beautifully serene and if you have good weather is wonderful to sit out in and take in the atmosphere.

The suites are located away from the house and are very spacious. Almost like staying in your own cottage - suite 38 had a small kitchenette and the lounge has a fine view of the main hotel. Very spacious bathroom although the decor is a bit dated and could do with modernising.

The service and food was excellent - dined in the main restaurant and had the set 3 course meal at £31.50 per head - exceptional value as the food was of a very high standard. An extensive wine list is available and most of the prices were reasonable. It was a busy evening in the restaurant and there was also a wedding reception taking place, but service was very efficient. Also had breakfast at an optional charge which if booked in advance is £11.95 - again the quality of the food was excellent and represented very good value for money.

Did not use the swimming pool or leisure facilities so cant comment.

All in all was very pleased with the service and hotel, would definately recommend and if you want a peaceful/romantic getaway then this is ideal for you.

Room Tip: Do check the room rates - there are some good deals to be had.

“Good quality accommodation and food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

Our room was termed "Superior", and had a pleasant view over the front garden, but was still fairly small - what the standard room was like I do not know. The bathroom was well lit, but the shower pressure was only adequate. The bed, a four-poster, had a firm mattress, which we like, but was only 4'6" wide - rather smaller than we are accustomed to. But the room was clean and the overall ambience was fine.

We were on "mini holiday" terms, which included an allowance of £31.50 towards the cost of the evening meal. It was of very acceptable quality, the rack of lamb and the scallops being particularly nice.

The breakfast was ample, both the traditional and the continental.

“first class”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

Stayed for Sunday night special deal (18th Sept 2011) This is a beautiful old building set in lovely grounds. The welcome at check in was courteous with our luggage taken for us as we were shown to our room.we had room 23 which was not huge, but has a modern bathroom and a lovely balcony overlooking the grounds.
Dinner was really nice, the dining room is really lovely, and the service was spot on.
Used the swimming pool whilst there, this is a nice facility and is set in what appears to be a converted barn situated just a few yards from the main building.
All in all,a great place to relax in very quiet surroundings and excellent service.

“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

Great setting and friendly staff. Booked this at the last minute. Single rooms all appear to be in the attic with restricted headroom - Anyone over 6ft tall expect some head banging!. Breakfast was great, Menu looked good but was on the pricey side, ok for a special occasion. The pool and gym were good but on the small side - ok for a quick relaxing dip.
Overall this is a classy hotel!

Room Tip: Room 19 has a very low ceiling and exceptionally low door to ensuite (approx 5ft high!)
