“Another very pleasant stay at Tuddenham Mill”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

This was our second stay at Tuddenham Mill and we weren't disappointed. We were staying in a Water Meadow Room which is separate to the main building but that did not bother us. The room is very comfortable with a king size bed, a great view of the snowy fields, a huge shower and a bath big enough for two! The little touches in the room such as DVD player and seemingly unlimited sloe gin were great.
We had dinner in the main restaurant on the Saturday night and I agree with other reviewers that the portions aren't massive but we enjoyed the unusual mixture of flavours. The service was very friendly. Breakfasts were great and shouldn't be missed. The following night we opted for a "light bite" in the room. Room service was delivered with a smile but we were slightly disappointed by the menu - it was all a bit complicated and something simpler would have been nice.
Overall a good trip.

“A great weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

What a lovely small minimalist hotel. We stayed in the Mill Room East which was very roomy and beautifully appointed and had the biggest bath in Suffolk. The food was excellent although my wife was disappointed that the menu didn't change from Friday to Saturday night. Thoroughly recommended for a relaxing weekend away. Ely was a cracking place to visit as well.

Room Tip: You have to be in the main Mill house to be able to stagger to bed.

“So Relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

My husband and I came to Tuddenham Mill in June 11' for our 2nd Anniversary, we stayed in the Loft Suite East.
From the moment we arrived we were very pleased with the staff's polite and very helpful manner. We were shown to our room (as soon as we walked in music was playing softly in the background) and shown around and told all relevant information we needed or would want to know.
The Loft Suite itself is sublime, almost a home from home, it had wonderful views over the pond and the land at the back and from the balcony the view was gorgeous looking out over the pond/river. We were instantly feeling relaxed.
There was a small complementary bottle of red wine in the room as well as teas, coffee's and snack's, these were re-stocked every morning (we stayed for 2 nights) and a bottle of sloe gin with two small glasses by the bed, which tasted devine.
The restaurant is also wonderful, the staff are very attentive and the food amazing. What seem like small dishes at first are actually very filling and cooked/prepared to perfection, with seasonal ingredients used.
My husband has also requested (without me knowing) that the hotel have candles and flowers and a bottle of champagne placed in the room and a bath run for when we finished our meal and got back to the room. They were more than happy to do this for him at short notice (the day before) and their timing was perfect.
All in all our experience was one we will be repeating again when we go back in March as we are taking my husband's parent's there for their 38th anniversary. We have made this a hotel we will stay at at least once a year from now on and have no hesitation in recommending it to friends, family and public alike.

“Hotel great... restaurant hilarious!”

We stayed here in one of the Mill Rooms which was delightful. It was a spacious room which was clean and modern. The terrace overlooking open green fields and a stream was a joy to behold. The little touches such as sloe gin, freshly squeezed orange juice and fresh coffee with cafetiere were much appreciated. However, one gripe was the noise from the upstairs room.. we were woken by their footsteps early each morning.

Now... to the restaurant... where do we start?! We had to wait in the bar for 40 minutes before having to ask to be shown to our table in the restaurant. The canapes, chicken skins (complete with chicken hairs!) and slivers of puff pastry with invisible anchovies provided in the bar were appalling.

When shown to our table, we were introduced to our "butter for this evening". This preposterous posturing accompanied each element of our meal. By this time, we were just about ready to eat the tablecloth to which we had not been introduced.

There was no ambience in the restaurant and the service was poor, albeit polite.

Our main courses were tasty although we had to wait far too long for them. Our desserts however, reduced us to tears of laughter. The dessert was called bitter chocolate textures. In fact, it was a teaspoonful of chocolate scraped on the side of a bowl along with a smearing of buttermilk and five berries sitting sadly nearby. Then along came the waitress who proceeded to pour a cup of cold rosemary tea over the lonely berries. Inedible.

We had to wait so long for our breakfast on the first morning that we ordered room service the next.

All in all, a beautiful room but the restaurant and food had a touch of the emperor's new clothes.

Room Tip: Choose an upstairs room.

“Excellent”

WE stayed for our first wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. Our room was excellent, white floorboards, shutters and linen, there was even music playing quietly when we went in. Homemade wine and shortbread and the best bit....the amazing big bath! We really didn't want to leave our room. The restaurant was a lovely area but I have to echo some of the comments about the food - I'm not the most adventurous of eaters and my husband can eat quite a bit so the a la carte menu did leave us feeling a bit peckish. The strawberries and cream was about £8 and it just wasn't justified. I'm sure some people would appreciate it but I think it would be a great addition to have a more substantial menu too (or else people will eat elsewhere). It would be great if Tuddenham acted on these commented as we loved our stay there and it's a very special, unique place....the food would just add to it!
