“A little gem great food, rooms, staff and attention to detail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

From pulling in to the gravel lined driveway you just know this is going to be a good hotel. The reception area is modern, contemporary and yet cosy and welcoming.

I stayed on business and had just had a 6 hr drive to get there. \It was a welcome sanctuary a real haven of peace, quiet, understated elegance and good quality local food.

Even details like the teabags (teapigs) in your room, a big fluffy dressing gown, a turn down service, molton brown toiletries were all there designed to make your stay just that little bit better.

“Fantastic hotel. A real treat for a birthday getaway.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I booked the hotel for a one night bed and breakfast to celebrate my wife's 40'th birthday.
From the moment we pulled up in the snow we were treated superbly by every member of staff from the excellent Vanessa on reception to the attentive waiters in the restaurant. Even the general Manager approached us to ask if we had enjoyed our stay as we booked out.
The room we had was fantastic with a very large, comfortable bed. The extra mile had clearly been taken with top quality bed linen. Complimentary coffee, tea and hot chocolates were of a very high standard.
Great views of stunning grounds from all aspects. The bathroom was just as good with wonderful Moulton Brown toiletries and a terrific shower.
We were able to use the swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna and had a very relaxing time.
Lastly we had a lovely breakfast which you could order from a large breakfast menu. The breakfast was beautifully presented on hot plates and extra coffee was presented instinctively throughout the meal.

The quality of a good hotel comes from the sum of all it's parts and the Bedford lodge certainly delivered us a wonderful experience. Thank you from Samantha and Sean.

We stayed one night as we were attending 50TH birthday party at the nearby jockey club.

A clean refurbished room in the main hotel which was clean and warm.

did not have time to use leisure facilities. Cooked breakfast was nice and cooked to order though milk for cereals was a little warm.

“Poor Service and very over-priced”

I stayed at the hotel on business and was very disappointed. The hotel is set in really nice surroundings and has a luxurious feel to it. My room was very clean and modern but the service lets the hotel down. The main problem was housekeeping and the restaurant.

Housekeeping was a let-down as the sheets were marked. They were undoubtedly clean but I guess their laundry service is not very good so it was bit off-putting to see stains and marks on the sheets and not what I’d expect for a 4-star hotel. Also, their turn-down service consisted of the chambermaid spending less than 2 seconds turning over one corner of the duvet.

For dinner I chose the 3-course table d’hote menu but they gave me the al la carte menu to choose my sweet from and I didn’t realise this until the bill arrived. Other diners had the same problem as we later found out there is also a table d’hote sweet menu which you have to ask for. The portions were very small for the expensive £26.50 3-course table d'hote menu.

For Breakfast I asked for a full cooked breakfast but I had just 4 items on the plate as the hash browns, fried bread, baked beans etc.. are listed under additional items and unless you specifically ask for these items you don’t get them!

“Staff trying hard but the problems are still there”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We stayed late in January, reception 'curt', room ok but bedlinen had holes in the undersheet.
Shower didn't work and in serious need of repair.
Bath drain plug broken.
Luncheon was a disaster with the two ladies in our party eating the same dish - 5 days now and both down with food poisoning.
Called the hotel management, I would suggest the 'couldn't care less' attitude to our comments about the food was both defensive and most unhelpful.
Sad because some of the staff were trying very hard to make our stay enjoyable.
We shall stay elsewhere in future.
