“Fabulous staff!!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

Booked a room at this hotel because we needed a large car park to take our 7.5 tonne horsebox (Premier Inn had previously said they could take us and the box but the car park turned out to be a multi-storey car park with a height restriction - what a con - won't be using them again!!) Our room was very spacious and comfortable (although the tv was small) and everywhere was clean with lovely bedding and towels, etc. Our horsebox had a problem and the staff, especially the General Manager (Robert) was so so helpful. He even contacted a local garage that would be able to repair it for us. My daughter and I had travelled 175 miles to take an injured horse to the equine hospital, plus problems with the horsebox - the staff were so kind and considerate to us both, reassuring us that we would be okay. I would definitely stay at this hotel again - the staff made our stay so much happier.

Room Tip: Choose room away from the bar??

Thank you for your kind comments. Robert was very happy that he could help you and your daughter in what was clearly a stressful time. Intersting that Premier Travel Inn would take your booking knowing full well that a horsebox would not get into the multistorey carpark they have to use as they do not have their own parking on site. What big companies will do for business!

“Rip-off”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

Last minute posting forced me to stay in this overpriced town. At £81 for a box room with a window opening onto a corridor and dirty en-suite, I will not be returning.

I'm really sorry that you felt our room was a rip-off. The room was a standard double not a box room and has recently been decorated. As for a dirty bathroom perhaps you could be more specific as we very rarely get any complaints about cleanliness. Ultimately you had a choice and if you did not like the room when you checked in (a) Why did you stay? and (b) Why did you not ask somebody if you could move? We can only help people if they talk to us when they are on site not once you become a faceless nobody on TA.

“Such a Shame”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

We have stayed at this hotel a few times but I think it is just getting worse and worse.

Don't get me wrong we had a lovely suite known as the "July Suite" - it was huge with a massive bed, three piece suite a massive flatscreen TV and a very large bathroom.

We stayed DBB at a good rate of £53.00 per person per night.

The evening meal was okay, it was a carvery. We were a little surprised that there were no greens, just carrots and red cabbage. The parsnips and roast spuds were a bit dried up although the meat was fine.

We were however kept awake until 4.30 in the morning by people in the bar down below our bedroom, which over looked the carpark and the outside seating. I have never heard such noise before in a hotel!!! The bar was obviously still open as they were clearly all drinking. Some weren't even even staying in the hote as I heard them call for taxis to take them home. We mentioned this to reception she just said "oh well, they have probably been to the races".

Breakfast was very chaotic, having to do your own toast, then you queue for your breakfast (which is self service), lots of things not topped up, you have to order your eggs separately. By the time you sit down, everything is cold.

Would we return?.......................Probably not!!!!!

Thank you for your review although why you call it "Such a Shame" baffles me! You stayed in the July Suite which normally sells at £190.00 room only and you had it for £106.00 DBB for two people! Noise in a hotel is inevitable and at the time the weather was hot and people were outside. Had you spoken to reception during the night and told them you were being kept awake by the noise they would have asked the people outside to come in, there is not much point saying something the following morning.

Most hotels now provide a toaster in the dining room to allow people to make their own toast this is not something new in fact it's rare to find hotels without toasters these days! Breakfast is a buffet and yes you have to order fried or poached eggs but if you order your eggs and then get the rest of the breakfast then it won't go cold it's quite simple really and if there is a big queue wait for it to subside.

It is your choice if you return or not but please don't paint a picture of things going wrong that could have been easily rectified.

“Good location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2011

Recently stayed overnight to go racing. Able to walk down the road and watch the horses on the gallops. Amazing sight. Discovered a complimentary shuttle bus round the corner from the hotel which takes you to the course. Hotel in a good location for the High Street. The lady on reception very friendly and welcoming. We paid for a superior room which was huge more like a suite. Breakfast was okay, cereals, fruit, full english, etc. Staff very friendly.

“very overpriced if going to one of Newmarket Nights”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2011

OMG where do I start. The room we stayed in room 33 was off a corridor so no outside window although we had air conditioning which was ok. The bed was rock hard and all the pillows were like bricks so very uncomfortable. Although the bedroom was clean the avocado bathroom suite was dated and water stained. The bedroom was very small for a double room and really didnt warrant the £158.00 for one night that we paid. The breakfast was ok but having stayed in Premier Inns in York and Newcastle with my children the previous week felt very let down by everything this hotel had to offer. Yes it is convenient for the racecourse, the staff were friendly but this didnt warrant the price paid.

Room Tip: Ask for different room to the one we had

Thank you for your comments if you had spoken to the reception after you had checked in they would have tried to help you to resolve your issues with the room. I am sorry you felt it was overpriced and you didn't like the colour of the bathroom, we are in the process of refurbishing these and they will soon be completed. The beds are new if you found it hard again I'm sorry we have had no other complaints about beds or pillows, again had you mentioned the pillows we would have happily swapped them for you.

As I mentioned in a previous response if you talk to us on site we can help you if you've left us there is little we can do except spend time writing to your responce which does not really resolve the matter!
