“Very Friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Just spent the weekend at the Wheatsheaf and what a pleasant weekend we had there. Staff very friendly and the landlord Ken was a star, had a drink with him in the pub and he even showed us the nightlife in Newmarket.

The rooms are above the premises, so be careful no noisy party on, but we had no problems, it was a nice village pub with a bar area, restaurant and beer garden, ideal for racing goers, with Ken also being a trainer.

Room we had was clean and tidy, with ensuite, evening meal we had there was lovely, all home made and breakfast cooked fresh, even asking us what time we'd like it.

Would def stop here again

“Stop being so lazy!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

Honestly I can't see that the person above actually stayed at the same place I am! The atmospheres great the food is mouthwatering and is better than the majority of places in and surrounding Newmarket. If you work in health and safety then you'd know about the rules for the chairs! So clearly that's just a lie. It's a b and b not a hotel so maybe if you wernt so lazy and stopped moaning you'd have enjoyed your stay more! Also Its one of the cleanest places I have stayed in so far and no mould was seen by me. And not only have you told lie after lie your also making yourself look like a moaning old bat. On that note I'm leaving but one more thing the rooms are not too expensive as yours only worked out at fifty pound a night. Bye bye.

“Overcharged for under rated weekend”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2009

We booked to stay 3 nights at a total cost of £260 for 2 bandb, I did think it was a bit over priced however quaint english Inns may be great value for money I paid deposit of £130 with £130 to pay. Our room was accessed via the back of the building through a narrow door which had a carpet at the entrance thick with grease as the kitchen door was next to this. The bedroom had mould on a corner of the ceiling and there was no chair to sit on. Whe a chair was requested I was told it was against health and safety as you may use the chair to tie the light cord around your neck. Morning arrived and the breakfast was somewhat greasy with black bits on the bacon.........anyway.....arrived back late that night about midnight.room had not been made up, advised them next day and was told they were too busy to do the room. Breakfast next day more of the same. On checking out on the Sunday I was told the balance was not £130.00 but £155, they had scored through the £130.00 balance due showing in the book, also that I had done nothing but complain all weekend and it was a B and B and you should make your own bed. Fuming I paid and left. I work in health and safety and I will not rest until this type of practice has been stopped. This type of business does nothing at all for the reputaion of the British Tourist Industry. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS.
