Wood Hall is a wonderful old Georgian English country house on the side of a quiet road close to Lavanham. Across the road from it are rolling fields that stretch off to the horizon. We feel very fortunate that we stayed there. Our host, the Nisbetts, were very kind, interesting and hospitable.
Our room was great! It could be one of those wonderful rooms in a Masterpiece
tv program. one that is set in a beautiful old English country house that is elegant, but not overly grand. The bed was big and very comfortable. There was a lovely tea tray set up with an electric pot, teas ,coffees, chocolate, biscuits, etc.. The room had antique furniture, lots of books about people and places of interest in the area. The bath room is large and sunny with a great big bath tub to stretch out in. There were lovely linens, lots of lotions, soaps.
Breakfast prepared by Susan Nisbett is not to be missed. When we entered the dining room sunlight was streaming in the windows. A fire was crackling in the huge fireplace. The table gleamed, the linen napkins were crisply ironed and the yellow roses on the table were beautiful. I haven't even gotten to the breakfast which was everything you would hope the perfect English breakfst to be. The orange juice was squeezed for us just before breakfast. The apple juice from a neighbor's orchard was better than any I've had. I had creamy scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and local bacon. My husband had a full English breakfast with the best sausages he had on our trip. Susan Nisbett knows and cares about food and only presents the best.
I could go on and on. Staying at Wood Hall provides a perfect old-fashined English country house experience with the added bonus of the hosts, the Nisbetts. They are lovely, thoughtful people.
